“Good museum in a beautiful building”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 28, 2013

This is definitely one of the must do things in Oaxaca. Set in the stunning Santa Domingo church and 57 pesos for entry its a great time. Spent about 3 hours there wondering the rooms. Each different room is dedicated to a different era. Mesoamerica until present day. Lots of great artifacts and very informative (though information is all in Spanish so you will need a bit to understand the jist of whats being said). If you come to Oaxaca, definitely make the time to come here...and plus the ethnobotanical garden is right next door so can do the 2 together (though make sure you plan that to meet time well as you have to have guided tour for the garden).

“Don't miss this”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 27, 2013 via mobile

This is a huge museum and one could spend hours here on a hot day staying cool and interested. Just walking around and checking the scenery from all the balconies is worth the trip . 57pesos well worth this small amount. It's next to the Santo Domingo church where on the two Saturdays I was there, I saw two bridal processions one after the other going into the church to be wed.

“Quite simply the best curated exhibits in a breathtaking building”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 12, 2013

I wish I had paid for an audio guide, but it was still an excellent experience. All of the exhibits are in Spanish only.

Allow three hours. There are beautiful gardens to see and nce terraces. You could spend a day here.

“Great collections in an awesome building”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 9, 2013

This museum is housed in an extremely beautiful building--formerly part of the church next door (Santo Domingo, also worth visiting). A variety of artifacts are kept here, from ancient items found in archeological excavations at nearby Monte Alban to relics of the Mexican Revolution. If you spend the time, you can pick up a pretty good history of the area here, even if your Spanish is pretty bad (as mine is). There is a gorgeous ethnobotanic garden just adjacent. Tours are hard to come by, but many beautiful views are available from this museum.

“Great museum”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 8, 2013

In a restored convent, this museum -- not in existence the last time I was in Oaxaca -- has a good selection of material over many centuries. It has the great finds of a major tomb at Monte Alban, up to colonial and more recent objects. It is large, and it is easy to miss some of the rooms.
