“Great hotel and location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 21, 2013

My wife and I enjoyed our stay at this hotel and also the city of Oaxaca. We were here for 4 days/5 nights in a "Standard Superior King" room, which was large enough for us. Others have commented on the bathroom - not big, but adequate for us. The shower, other fittings and toiletries were good. We were not aware that we could have asked for a bathroom with a separating door (ours was a curtain), but it did not bother us.

The room had a comfortable bed (it was fine for us, but those over 6 feet might want to ask if they have a longer bed!) and good furniture. Staff daily put in two small bottles of water for drinking/cleaning teeth. The window in the room opens into the courtyard, and there is a choice of three window closures: a louvred closing to keep the light out but allow fresh air, a glass closure, and a solid wood one - we chose different ones at different times of the day/night.

The courtyard is pretty, with a calming water feature and with hummingbirds feeding near the cactus early in the morning! It is also a nice place to sit with a drink in the evening.

We enjoyed the restaurant - good food, including breakfast - and good and friendly service. We also had a nice choice of vegetarian options. I seem to recall that the wine list does not include the vintage of the wines - this would be useful when the list is next printed.

There is also a roof terrace open in the evenings for drinks. It is a good place to view the Oaxaca skyline.

The (free) wifi worked ok - it is slightly slow and weaker in certain locations, and it could do with an upgrade. However, there is a nice, quiet library in which to sit and read, and it also has a PC with a wired connection.

All staff were friendly and cheerful, and they gave us directions to local sites and markets. The hotel is well-located...away from the busier central area, but within a 10-15 minute leisurely walk from it.

A wholly enjoyable stay!

I stayed for 7 nites. Hotel is centrally located. Hotel staff extremely courteous and helpful. Towels/face cloths were hard and over used. Be certain to get a room w/separate bathroom. Don't get the room with curtain that separates toilet/shower,from the beds. Fairly quiet hotel, with exception of unsupervised noisy children running up and down the outside, exterior hall, during my visit.

Room Tip: Small hotel, convenient location, very friendly and helpful staff. For standard room ask for separa...

We booked in advance for the new year's eve dinner. The internet picture showed a lovely indoor patio with the tables well decorated in that lovely ambience. The menu (not cheap at all), sounded delicious and strange (you know, its new year's eve..., you have to be daring!) Boar, mussels, salmon, etc..music..... Oaxaca...., friends...., family..... What else can you ask for?????.We were a group of 11 people. Problems began when we called on the 31st in the morning... when they told us, that although they have already charge half of the bill, we would not eat boar, because we didn't answer an e-mail sent to us (where they only announced that our credit card was charged)...As asked,... we were there on time.....
The beautiful inside patio with a morrocan fountain... became an inside huge room....no decoration what so ever..., no nice ambience....., just a big table in a huge room... the decoration in our table was a pair of hats and some whistles!!!!...nothing special at all, and you could see the lack of imagination and taste in preparing this place, for such and important and expensive evening...The music, was a pair of men playing guitars, that sounded boring the whole evening. A waiter came with a drink menu....because we were so many, instead of ordering individual drinks, we decided to order a bottle of Tequila and some sodas.. Guess what...they did not have Tequila!! (yes, in México, in a hotel that also has bar service...in new years eve!!!) when the tone of our dislike grew they finally found a bottle, wich was twice as expensive as the one we wanted!!! (coincidence..???!!!) we got so angry that we finally burst in anger and one of our friends went to "speak" with the manager....After this little chat, and some threats about cancelling the whole deal; the famous tequila bottle was given as a present, and guess what?... a waiter came to ask who wanted to have boar for dinner!!! The waiters showed lack of trainning, they just don't know how to handle a big table..., they bounced between each other, not knowing when to pick up dishes or serve the next one...
The food was good, not exceptional..., but the whole evening was a fraud... The festive mood became disconfort, anger, and disappointment.

We stayed for 3 nights. I'd suggest staying longer (maybe another 1-2 nights) if you want to get out of Oaxaca and explore surrounds. Hotel staff were very helpful and the hotel was reasonably easy to find. Rooms were nice and clean, and the bed was comfy. Good wifi. Would stay here again.

My experience in hotel azul was great. Rooms are really spacious, mattresses so comfortable! Bathrooms in the standard room I stayed in were small but That wasn't a problem at all for me. They have interesting common areas such as a projection room, a small capilla (place to play) that I found quiet interesting, a restaurant, a library with a computer you can use, free wi-fi and a crying wall or at least that's what they call it, it is really beautiful. They also had live music on Fridays and Saturdays! Be careful going up and down the stairs cause there isn't enough light.

The staff was so helpful, they were amazing helping me with some printing and scanning I had to do. I had great restaurant recommendations from them, they really know what to recommend!

Locations is perfect, walking distance to touristic sights in the city center area.

The only thing I didn't love about the hotel is that they don't have parking area for guests, I was lucky to find a spot just across the hotel in the street.

The hotel is in the heart of Oaxaca which makes it an ideal place to stay whilst visiting the town centre. The hotel doesn't have any parking but there is a garage 100 mts away on the same road that charges 140 mx pesos per day. The hotel is modern minimalist, very large and comfortable rooms, great breakfast and amazing service. Just make sure you type "Manuel Abasolo" as the road in your GPS otherwise if you put only "Abasolo" you'll end up in the bloody outskirts of Oaxaca! overall it's an amazing spot, a 4 stars hotel at the cost of a cheap b&b in london!

I stayed for 4 nights in this sophisticated hotel. At the moment I arrived at the hotel, their outstanding architecture interested me a lot. After I checked in, however, I found that point was just one of their beauties. Their room had well thought-out illumination and beautiful decor with nice pieces of furniture. In addition, they served me with delicious and typical breakfast of Oaxaca, garnishing with a bit of modernity. And as other guests mentioned it, the staffs helped me stay much comfortably.
