“Handy location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 7, 2012

Just a couple of blocks away from the main square this hotel is in an excellent location as a base for exploring the beautiful town of Oaxaca and its surroundings. Stayed here as part of a pre-arranged group tour so have no idea about prices or value for money, but strikes me this would be an acceptable budget hotel. A few niggles - safe in room didn't work, rooms were very noisy, particularly when there was a function on, and all in need of a serious refurb, but for a couple of nights it did the job.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 31, 2011

We booked this hotel after quite a few other options turned out to be full. It wasn't exactly cheap and the first room we were shown had no outside window - just a window on to a corridor. To be fair, they agreed to change the room and the second option was much better, overlooking the pool and next to the restaurant. However, owing to the proximity to the restaurant, it was very noisy. In addition, the bathroom sink had a sewage smell rising from it (although this seems not uncommon for Mexico). Some positives included the fact that a baby sitter was available for 100 pesos per hour and there was also room service. In fact, service was very good in the hotel. On the other hand, the restaurant options were rather limited and breakfast was not included.

Room Tip: Beware of rooms with no outside window.

In a very busy weekend, we visited one of the best places in Mexico: Oaxaca!
The hotel Is 1 block from the very downtown so when you want to sleep you find mo noise at all... Breakfast is very cheap and very good quality. We booked 4 rooms for the family and my daughters complained about the bathrooms... They were a little bit cold. Pillows? - Pillows are too high and feels like rocks.
Overall, i think it's a good option given the price and location. I'll certainly would recommend and come back myself, so of course would bring my own pillow!

We were forced to stay here for a night as we arrived to Oaxaca a day earlier than anticipated. While the location was great, we were underwhelmed by the service, the bathroom did not function (shower flooding into the bedroom).

Definitely a decent enough stay for budget or spartan travelers, but not recommended for those seeking more pleasant accommodations.

Great for short stance in Oaxaca. Pretty close to downtown, restaurants and all typical places

We stayed here for three nights in August 2011 and found the Real to be a wonderful hotel. Contrary to one previous reviewer, this hotel is very much open for business and having been so well looked after, we would definitely recommend it.
it is located about 5 mins walk from the Zocalo on a safe and well served street. it is a very secure hotel with a lovely pool, though the water is a bit shaded and cold.
The restaurant is good and serves a very decent breakfast. We arrived a day late and the hotel could not do enough for us. They didnt even charge us for the night we missed which was so decent of them.
The rooms are spacious enough, clean and well furnished, nothing amazing or anything but very comfortable.
So it is good value, central, safe and most of all, served by staff who just could not do enough for us. if you are coming to Oaxaca, then definitelt consider this hotel.
