“Great hospitality, good price”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 20, 2013

Stayed here for 2 nights & absolutely loved it. The owners welcomed us & we immediately felt very comfortable, they were very helpful throughout our stay. The room was simple but clean, the fan was adequate for the nights we stayed there. We had a shared bathroom which was only steps from our door but to my knowledge we were the only ones using it! Both the bathroom & our room was very clean. Wifi good and shower hot. The rooftop terrace is a great place to just relax & watch the streets below. The location is only a few blocks from the zocalo but easily walked in around 5 minutes to the zocalo & markets so compared to the more expensive hotels we were very happy to walk the few blocks as the streets felt safe. Would definitely stay here again.

Had a great stay at el quijote in June. Lovely relaxed atmosphere that was a nice break from the typical party of mexican budget accomodation.
I would say rooms offer a little more than just 'simple', with some furnishings, lamps, decorations etc.
Immaculately clean, with daily room servicing. Shared bathroom was fine, with great hot water.
Fridge available to keep a few beers cold, and one of the best roof top terraces around for enjoying them.
The best part was the owners. Rarely do you come across such helpful, friendly, accommodating people. They will do anything to make your stay in their home as pleasant as possible!
About 8 minute walk to zocalo, and its a safe interesting walk past markets etc so I would say great location.
If you want to have a bit of peace and a good price whilst enjoying oaxaca this is your place.

Oh, and really good wifi too!

I'm a typical Hong Kong person who has high standard when it comes to convenience and efficiency. This location of this hostel is great, you may need to walk a bit like 10 - 15 mins to zocalo, but the road is easy to find, the short distance makes you save a great deal, a good choice for budget travelers. Plus, you can get the chance to learn more about the city through walking along the different streets, I felt very safe all along and I enjoyed that a lot.

The host gave us detailed guidance whenever we had any questions. They had some trips to offer, but they were never pushy.

They have a big gate right in front of the hostel, and once you've got through the gate you still have to open another door which is carefully locked. This makes you feel super safe.

The MOST IMPRESSIVE point about this hostel is that they would tidy up your room like your MOTHER! I've stayed in a lot of hotels and hostels before, people would just leave the area of messy bags untouched and do the minimum only (like doing the bed, replacing towels, etc) The wife of the host would help you hang up coats whenever she sees any on the chair, bed, or simply on top of your backpacks; she would put things back to order whenever things get just a little bit messy, including your different bags and backpacks on the floor (things would sometimes chaotic when I'm on a rush to go in the morning : P). Don't worry, she would never open your bags, she's just like a mother who wants her children to have a nice tidy room.

I speak some Spanish, they don't really speak English, so of course we used Spanish to communicate. So better check up some useful phrases before you go in case you don't speak Spanish : )

wifi, btw, is super good

one bad side, sometimes the water is not hot enough...

Emilio was great. He literally went out of his way to make sure that we had everything we needed. When we couldn't find the only laundry open on a Sunday, he got his bike out and took it up for us!
The room was great and the rooftop terrace is beautiful. It is a short walk to the market from the hotel and the zocalo is only two blocks further. Great place to stay

We loved our stay here, the owners are super friendly and very helpful with information of how to get around. The rooms are excellent and clean, the showers are great hot with good power. The beds whilst firm are clean and comfie. The ceiling fans were more than enough for a hot day no air con necessary. The safe was helpful to have. I could not fault this guest house in anyway. i would definetely stay again. It was also good to stay close to the main area without being in the midst of expensive tourist areas.

I spent 2 nights in this very nice guesthouse!
My room was really clean..I chose the one with private bathroom..
Ventilation, net on the windows, good wifi connection, furnitures for bathroom..

Pretty close from the center. And the surprise is the really nice terrasse.

The boss gives you advices about the city and she is helpful!

The shower was not so hot, but maybe it was beacause i took my shower too late!;)

We are currently staying at el quijote at were welcomed with open arms by Emilio and Marta. Yes the rooms are small but you do not generally plan to be in them for that long except to sleep. Our bed was huge and extremely comfortable and our sheets and towels were changed daily. It feels very safe being here and the walk to the zocalo is about 10 mins with things to see along the way. We booked the mitla tour through Emilio and had a blast. Would definitely recommend the place. Make sure you have cash as they do not have eftpos and visit the terrace upstairs at night- it is nice to watch the world go by :-)
