“Amazing value for a litlte family owned hotel Oaxaca”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 19, 2014

This hotel is located conveniently in a quiet part of town, but it's not too far from anything. It's priced really well, has tons of character, and it's really comfortable. And the food at the restaurant is super yummy. The beautiful garden adds tons of character to the place. The owner is beyond sweet. i would definitely stay here again!

We spent two nights at Las Golondrinas when visiting Oaxaca. The folks who ran it were friendly, the included breakfast was superb, and the flower-filled courtyards were gorgeous. The beds were comfortable, the bathroom large, and they supplied a nice big fan as well (no airconditioning, of course).

Most important, the price was right: 780 pesos/night for a three-person room ($50.54). We'll return when we next visit Oaxaca.

Las Golondrinas offers reasonably priced rooms, in the convenient location with flowers all around and a lovely open breakfast area.
We stayed on the ground floor, which was not noisy in a large suite with a comfortable, simple room. One of the pleasures if staying here are the other guests, 2 of whom we spent time with exploring Oaxaca and environs. The staff is helpful. The only drawback is the spotty wifi that did not work at all in our room. The hotel is located on a convenient street to explore the center part of Oaxaca and be able to come back for a siesta if needed. Other guests preferred to be further off the street or up stairs and as long as it was possible the staff allowed guests to change rooms to find the perfect one for them. We will definitely return here.

We stayed as a couple late January 2014 for 5 nights. I had asked for an upstairs room based on previous room tips that the upstairs room were brighter. We got a large room (may have been a honeymoon suite) that had a king bed. The room was shaped in a horse shoe shape with two couches and lots of storage space, desk, etc. Might be good for a family if one of the couches in the turned into a bed. Room was very clean and there was a chair outside of our door. Have to agree with previous comments while the gardens were lush, it made for little outside space to sit so we were glad the room was big. We didn't eat breakfast in the restaurant after the first morning preferring to go and get better coffee out. WiFi sometimes worked in the room but worked the best in the restaurant area. Staff was very helpful and our room didn't get any of the street noise. Room number was DD. Hotel is in good walking distance of all down town attractions.

We stayed here for 7 nights and really loved it. Close to everything. Very comfortable room , super clean and cozy king size bed. We also had a very sunny room that was perfect. There are some rooms that are quite dark, so you may want to request a room with windows if that is important to you.

Twenty-two years ago my first wife and I stumbled onto Las Golondrinas and I never forgot the tree shaded courtyards, the wonderful art in the rooms, and the friendliness of the owner, plus the best fresh orange juice I'd ever had. A few years after the visit that marriage ended, and a couple years later I remarried. Rebecca and I have been together ever since, but she'd never been to Oaxaca, and when we decided to go, Las Golondrinas was a natural place to stay. It was just as amazing, a wonderful haven of quiet a 10 minute walk from the Zocolo. There was more amazing art in the courtyard, particularly the pots with bas-relief animal shapes. The breakfasts were as good as I remembered--friends staying at another hotel began coming over to share them with us. I spent the hottest part of several days in the courtyard talking with other interesting guests, and I met more interesting guests while staying there, including a friend from Seattle who I didn't know would be in Oaxaca. It felt homey and friendly and a great base to explore Oaxaca. Some of the guests, like an retired art professor from Montana who used to take his students to Oaxaca, were staying a month or more.

The front desk people were also very helpful. It isn't a fancy hotel concierge, but they spoke English well, helped us connect with the excellent En Via tour to the villages, and went beyond the call of duty when my wife Rebecca came down with an asthma attack, and didn't have an inhaler with her. They called a lovely English speaking doctor who came to the hotel and for 600 pesos examined her and wrote out a prescription for an inhaler, plus prescribed some drops that cleared up some eye problems. I can't imagine staying anywhere else when we return to Oaxaca.

Room Tip: They all seem good

We recently had the opportunity to stay at Las Golondrinas for a few days while visiting Oaxaca. The property is centrally located and is within easy walking distance of many of the main attractions and restaurants in the historic district of Oaxaca, while still being in a quiet neighborhood. The hotel can best be described as pods of rooms separated by patios and garden areas. Although the rooms are basic, they are comfortable and our room with a king sized bed appeared to be larger than some of the other rooms with only double beds. The outdoor breakfast eating area is surrounded by gardens which made for a nice way to start the day and also to share experiences with other visitors. The breakfasts, which are not included in the room rates, cost perhaps a bit more than what you would pay elsewhere in town, but for us, the quality of the food and the garden setting made up for the difference. If you are considering a trip to Oaxaca, and are looking for a budget friendly place to stay with helpful staff, I would recommend Las Golondrinas.

Room Tip: If you want a larger room, ask for a king sized bed. All rooms appear to be pretty quiet.
