I chose this hotel because the ratings on Tripadvisor sounded quite good. In fact this place is cheap for being so centrally located. The best thing to say is that it's quiet and that the receptionist was friendly. However, there are a many things to improve and I left the hotel quite angry.
First of all, the white painting in the rooms needs refreshment. The furniture is quite old and showing its age. Bathroom lamps and towel holders are rusty, and when I moved in, I found a lot of hair on the floor in both bedroom and bathroom. The worst thing, however, was a problem with the hot water I experienced. On my first day, I was lucky enough to take a shower with lukewarm water. The following three days there was no hot water at all. I complained the first day, but nothing changed. Oaxaca has a chilly climate and I had already caught a cold before, so it was extremely unpleasant to take cold showers. I mentioned the problem again the morning of my departure and went out for breakfast. When I came back, the receptionist told me he had talked to the manager, who was only willing to give me a 20% discount for the last night. I refused to accept and reminded him that I had mentioned the problem already two days but nobody seemed to be interested in solving it. As we could not find an agreement, I only paid 70% of the room rate and left.
You can find newer hotels for less money, but with TV and nicer bathrooms in the streets South of the Zócalo.
