Bring your hat and tan lotion.
Excellent and beautiful place. Lots of history. Always ask for a tour guide. It will help understand the place.

“Enthralling”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 21, 2013

Fascinating insight into hundreds of years of pre-Columban history and cultures there. Can climb one for the platforms for a great view of the site and surrounding area and also enter one of the pyramids to see decoration on an earlier building that was built over. Wonderful museum and coffee shop too. Much more user friendly than Chichen Itza where all monuments were roped off and could only be viewed at a distance

“Prehispanic site”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 19, 2013

Monte Alban is fairly intact as the Zapotecs were able to keep its existence a secret from the conquistadors. Very impressive site. Be sure to hire a guide, wear a hat, sunscreen, and carry water.

“The best historic place to see in Oaxaca”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 17, 2013

Extremely important in the history of Mexico and the State of Oaxaca. Best is to go early in the morning before the thousands of people come. Ancient people used to go there all dressed in white according to their culture and gods, many locals still do it today. Impressive site. I went there twice in two years and will go back again.
