“A very comfortable hotel in the best possible location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 24, 2013

It's not much of a cultural experience, but this hotel is clean, comfortable and located next to the second most beautiful square in Oaxaca. The plumbing is lavish--the water is filtered so it's both drinkable and appealing to shower in.

I found the bed a little hard, but still found it incredibly restful. It doesn't feel like a chain, which is nice. The building has a lot of character.

Room Tip: Ask for a courtyard room. The traffic in Oaxaca is quite loud.

We stayed at this hotel during xmas week 2012 (two parents and three teenagers). It was a great choice for us. The breakfast was excellent, and the pool was perfect for a dip at the end of a hot day touring historic sites. Carlos, the manager, greeted us daily. His visibility, friendliness and commitment to the comfort of his guests made a great impression on us. The hotel is in a quiet location and within easy walking distance to central Oaxaca. Oaxaca was a delightful place to visit. We'd definitely stay at this hotel again.

Just 10 minutes to Andador Turístico, the main tourist street in Oaxaca in downtown. Very friendly personnel, great rooms with good beds and pillows. There is a jacuzzi however the water is not hot.... Good amenities in bathroom from Crabtree. Very recomendable, however only breakfast, no restaurant on site. Of course many places to et in downtown though.

I've been to this HIX multiple times on business since 2007 and have always found the rooms and common areas to be very clean. The wireless service is good and we were notified when it was going to be out of service for upgrades. In addition, the staff has always been courteous, helpful and friendly. The breakfast has eggs two ways, ham, bacon, refried beans, bread, tortillas with sauce, yogurt, fruit, pastries, etc..is very good. It's nice to have a bar in the patio area in the evenings and the hotel is a short walk from the Zocolo, Mercado and the Church and former monastery of Santo Domingo de Guzmán.

Kudos to the folks at the Holiday Inn Express. The manager, Carlos, greeted us upon arrival and throughout out stay, it was clear he is the force behind making the hotel a great hotel. We stayed in a Junior Suite for four nights and the room was very spacious, clean and modern. The hotel is located about a 15 minute walk from the Zocola in a quiet neighborhood near a park. The breakfast was good, offering fresh fruit, yogurt, hot items like eggs and bacon, cereal, etc. The staff at breakfast and all around provided excellent service. When we left for the airport in the early morning, they packed a small breakfast of juice, granola and an apple for us. Nice touch. We paid about $110 USD per night which included taxes and breakfast. The Holiday Inn Express is a good value for your money.

Very nice HIX. Room rates were a bit on the steep side, however given its location and the popularity of beautiful Oaxaca it is to be expected. This is what we were impressed by:

(1) Location was perfect, at the quiet northern end of the historic district across from a beautiful park. Close enough to walk everywhere but away from the noise and bustle.

(2) View from the room was wonderful (of the pool area and the mountains).

(3) Breakfast was excellent, with lovely dishes/silverware, courteous service and delicious food. One never finds such high standards at HIX breakfast rooms in the US/Canada.

(4) The manager was very hands-on and took a personal interest in the welfare of guests. He found us a great car and driver and negotiated the route and price with him for us. He even allowed us to check out late when he found out that we had an evening flight out of Oaxaca.

I would stay here in a heartbeat if I was to return to Oaxaca.

Everything was excellent. They have a small restaurant only for breakfast buffet. The food is excellent, but always the same. The service is not good. The waiters need some training in regard to attitude of service.
Rooms are spacious, clean and have an excellent bathroom , also clean and spacious.
The area where the hotel is located is very quiet and you can have a pleasant sleep.
