I recommend making this one of your first stops while visiting Oaxaca. That way you will have a better understanding of Oaxaca's rich culture and history as you tour the city and valley. The very large gift shop has an amazing collection of books for sale. Beautiful archatecture and close to my favorite restaurants in the city. A good way to escape the summer afternoon heat. The numerous balconys offer a beautiful view of the botanica grounds next door and the surrounding mountains. Low entrance fee. There is a convienent bag check at the main entrance. Tripods are not allowed but professional cameras seem to be OK as long as you keep a low profile. Allow a minimum of 2 hours to visit. I have been here 3 times. Lots to do in the general area.
