Ok so admittedly we stumbled upon an unusual situation. Visiting nearby galleries, we heard an approaching procession replete with drums and horns. Turned out to be festive party celebrating the wedding of Carlos and Félipe. (Apparently there was just a legal decision in favor of marriage equality in Oaxaca). We returned several hours later to a delicious dinner at Casa Oaxaca, where the wedding party was dining. We benefited from great atmosphere, views of Santo Domingo church, and...their marimba band. Despite the large party the wait staff were friendly and efficient. Chilly eve so we enjoyed flavorful soups ( de frijoles, and nopalitos con camarones). Main dish of chivo (baby goat) was tender and savory. Dessert (guayaba tart with rose petal sorbet) was almost an out-of-body experience. Fantastic food and atmosphere in the historic heart of Oaxaca!
