“Fun little B&B”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2009

Teotitllan del Valle may not at first seem like the type of place to spend a night. But it is well worth staying to get a small town perspective on the region, and this small town is really pleasant, and one of the main centers for weaving. We stayed in the deluxe room, which was very nice and came with a breakfast on the terrace. The owner, Roberta, was very accommodating and pleasant to talk with. There were several people staying long-term, which made for an interesting mix of travelers and conversation, especially because some of them had come to know the town fairly well. Sitting on the terrace for a sunset and bottle of mezcal was a highlight.

This hotel was recommended to me via a travel forum and it really was a good find! Teotitlan del Valle is a pueblo famous for weaving and is about 40 minutes by bus from Oaxaca city. We decided to spend one night outside of the city and definitely had a rural experience. The deluxe room was beautiful and very clean. The main thing to know before you go is that this is not a busy town with a ton to do (at least when we went). It is more a place to unwind. We just spent one night and enjoyed the balcony with gorgeous views of the surrounding mountains and views of the burro and chickens next door. I would definitely recommend bringing earplugs unless you are used to hearing chickens and burros throughout the night. I was really glad we stayed here and am happy for the experience.

  • Liked — Different pace of life, and clean!
  • Disliked — remote, but that was the point
