“Best mole sampling!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 10, 2012

While the restaurant is not as charming as it used to be, it does serve fantastic traditional moles. Ask for the mole sampler plate and they will bring you 6 little bowls with different mole sauces which you can have with chicken, beef, or over tortillas as enchiladas stuffed with chicken, quesillo or plain. They have negro, colorado, amarillo, verde, sancochado and some other one I am forgetting. They serve larger parties if there is enough space. It gets very full after 2.30pm so reservations are advisable. It is very near Santo Domingo and a good place to eat before or after visiting the museum, which closes late.

While we enjoyed the mole sampler it could not make up for how bad the food was. For the price we were shocked that the main meal came with no accompaniment such as rice, The pork with our mole was dry and over cooked. Do NOT order the chile rellenos- rather than the traditional chile poblano it is made with chile pasilla- too spicy and too small. It was clearly cooked days before and reheated- served with iceberg lettuce and reheated rice- it was horrendous. Service and coffee was good but not enough to make up for the food. Would not reccommend this place.

“A Great Sampling of Moles”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 29, 2012 via mobile

Just having arrived in town, we chose Los Pacos so as to sample the selections of mole Oaxaca has to offer. As we had family with us who had not visited here before, we thought that this would be a good first experience. It was! Both the quality of the food and the service were excellent. Getting to sample the moles first narrowed down the ones we each wanted more of. The 6 mole sampler gave us the range of tastes we were looking for. Although everyone was satisfied with their choices, little else came with the dishes other than tortillas. I enjoyed a plate of mole Colorado con tasajo. The meat was tender and delicious! Unfortunately, for $160 MEX they could have included rice as a side dish so as to further enjoy the healthy portion of dark, rich mole. Nonetheless, it was still a fine meal. We also started out with a mezcal reposado which was excellent. Service was excellent. Our waiter was most helpful answering questions and explaining dishes. My only real complaint would be that for what we paid, we probably should have gotten more of a meal rather than just a dish. It was curious that the VAT tax was an addition to the bill that I haven't seen in many other restaurants in Mexico.

“The mole sampling its a must!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 15, 2012 via mobile

Truly speaking, the food is vey average." but if you dont know the mole or the oaxacan moles, this is the place to try them all. At the beginning they offer a sample with the 7 moles of Oaxaca and you can order the entree with beef, chicken or pork of the one you like the most. The service is beyond expectations and the place is comfortable and cozy.

“THE place to try Oaxacan moles”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 20, 2012

This restaurant had mainly Mexican customers and displayed some fantastic contemporary artwork. The staff were helpful and recommended a couple of taster dishes so we could try 7 of the different moles along with a platter of crispy, meaty delicacies. I came to appreciate the complex, distinct and flavoursome variety of Mexican moles that we never get to sample in the UK. I wouldn't make a habit of eating here, as most Mexican food has a long way to come to meet the gastronomic standard of Europe (this is a market ripe for expansion though - it reminded me of the diversity and flavour explosions in Indian cooking, and I'm sure in a few years Mexican food will have morphed into something amazing as it has such wonderful flavours, influences and variety of fantastic ingredients). Thanks Los Pacos, I had a great meal, although a word of warning - you have to like a fair amount of chilli to enjoy these dishes, as the delicious stuffed, battered chipotles are deceptively sweet but leave your mouth on fire!
