Mexico City is a wonderful city! It´s absolutely necessary to spend at least 4 or five days if you really want to see and experience on of the greatest cities in the Americas. We went almost every evening to Coyoacan and spent most of our time in the barrios around plaza Hidalgo. Good restaurants (choose the cheap ones) and it so much to see happening on the squares in the evenings, specially on friday and saturday night. The tube is excellent and it is no problem using it in daytime. Why not take the metro to Viernes and then walk to plaza Hidalgo. A hotel recommendation is Casa Gonzales in Zona Rosa (Rio Sena 67-71). Cheap and very friendly atmosphere. You find information about this hotel in the Lonely Planet guide on Mexico city. And if you are travelling with bus to Oaxaca or other places, choose ADO. Not the cheapest but excellent service. You buy tickets at Terminal Oriente and the buses leaves from here. One more thing about Mexico City. Don´t miss the Museo Nacional de Antropologia. The greatest museum I have seen!

As soon as I arrived in Mexico City, I was in shock. The place is flithy, smelly and people are well creepy. This place is so poor with poverty and crime. It is so disturbing to see children as young as two trying to earn a living by selling things or washing cars. I know this is the norm in poor countries such as Pakistan but seeing it for real was a major shock to me and has upset me. You get loads of men and women on the street begging for money (much more than you see in London). The men try to become your tour guide hoping you will give them some money. It does become a real pain after a while. On the positive side, the hotel I am staying is beautiful and the staff are friendly. This city does have lots of culture and history but as I am not interested in that side of things, this city does not offer any diversity. It is a pity that this city couldn't offer me any more.

I was recently in a rafting trip, just one hour and a half from Mexico city, and I can say it was one of the best whitewater rafting trips I've taken, great service, great equipment, great guides, cute too, and of course the Lower Amacuzac river in Morelos is just the best, because of the rapids and the scenery. The best kept secret of Mexico.
