“Still Superlative!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 10, 2014

Our second visit to the Red Tree House was wonderful. They still have a wonderful, solicitous staff, beautiful rooms, and a great breakfast. This is the place to stay in Mexico City. The nightly happy hours are a great way to discuss sight-seeing and cultural options and meet interesting people. A quiet but lively neighborhood--it is very easy to get around the city from this spot. You will not be disappointed if you stay here!

What a wonderful, inviting place to stay. The staff and their nightly happy hour makes this a place where strangers become friends. Any trips in the future to Mexico City will include staying at the Red Tree House.

We don't normally stay in bed and breakfast places as we like a certain quality and we like our privacy. We decided to stay here due to the reviews particularly about help with organising trips and transport options as we were two females travelling. The place was beyond our expectations and if coming back I would definitely stay here and have told all my friends to stay here. Firstly the prices were very reasonable for what one gets. The actual location is really fantastic in the Condessa area as it's such a nice area with so many cafes and restaurants and bars. It is a much nicer area than the main strip where most hotels are located. Transport options were excellent, metro was nearby and easy to catch. Hiring a car for day trips with driver from hotel was very good and very reasonable at around $10 an hour, and if there are others doing same trip one can share a car to make it even cheaper. We stayed in the Lafayette suite which was very comfortable it's not like a five star hotel but I would much rather stay here and in this area. The best thing about the place was how welcoming the staff were, beyond what one expects anywhere they make you feel so at home. Victor, Ernesto, Alejandro were all so super friendly and helpful. There is free wine night daily to meet other guests which we thought we will only attend for one night but ended up going to all five nights as the other guests were interesting and it had a great atmosphere. The breakfasts were great too with a choice of fresh fruits and breads and pastries and a cooked dish every day and fresh juices and good coffee. The free wifi was great too and worked very well. The only issue was occasional noise from other guests as the rooms are not that sound proof but most guests are well behaved. The rooms contained lists of all the recommended nearby restaurants of which many were great. We also loved he french restaurant recommended. They even had lists of places open on Sundays when most things are closed. The transfer back from hotel to airport again was so cheap! The laundry prices were so reasonable unlike most hotels. We stayed here for five nights and were too rushed as there was so much to see and do, one should stay longer if they can. I think it's this hotel that truly made the whole experience of Mexico City so memorable, and I would definitely return and recommend it to all. We never felt unsafe the entire time we were in Mexico City. It's not just about a place to sleep. Thank you all for such a wonderful experience, if only there were more places like this.

perfect little spot in a lovely neighborhood. Feels like a friendly b and b. There's a hot breakfast every morning (available 8am to 10) and a hosted wine "happy hour" every evening (6pm to 8). The guests are almost all English-speaking and interesting so chatting with them is part of the fun. The owners are gracious and very knowledgable about restaurants and city attractions - and helpful about directions and calling cabs, and so on. The rooms are small but comfortable. The walls are covered with excellent art. Really a treat.

Room Tip: bring a check. There's a hefty fee if you pay with credit card.

After reading all the reviews I knew I was in for a treat and we definitely were. My friend and I were welcomed by Ernesto Martin with open arms. They knew our names and had been waiting for us.. They took our bags, gave us some tea and made us feel at home within 5 minutes. Our room was lovely, we had a garden room. Not super fancy but ideal for my friend and I. The morning breakfast was great as well as the company we had. All the guest were intriguing and entertaining and we enjoyed our daily breakfast with them. It was like one big family catching up on what we did the day before. Craig is a great host, he is personable, knowledgeable and delightful. He and his staff make you feel like part of the family. We truly enjoyed our trip to Mexico city and I believe a big part of that was our time at The Red Tree house. I hope to visit Mexico city in the near future again and without a doubt I will stay here.

Four of us recently stayed in one of the apartments next door to the hotel as it was a similar price to getting 2 rooms. The apartment has a large fully equipped kitchen that we didn't use but may be useful for a longer stay. Huge couch & dining table. Bedrooms had block out curtains and it was very quiet in the building which equalled excellent sleeping conditions.

The staff are truly delightful and can't do enough to help you. They'll arm you with a map and lots of great recommendations while offering you complimentary beverages at communal happy hour. It's in a lovely part of town with plenty of eating and drinking options within walking distance.
You really won't believe you're actually in a mega city staying
here.

I loved this place, after arriving from a very long journey it felt so tranquil! Amazing courtyard for happy hour, lovely staff and beautiful breakfasts. In a lovely area, with lots of nice restaurants near by. Very clean and nice decor. I would come back for sure.
