“Warm, gracious hosts make everyone feel at home!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 17, 2013

My stay at the Red Tree House began with a warm welcome the minute I stepped out of my cab and ended with a heartfelt hug and kiss when I reluctantly departed seven days later. Craig, Jorge, and their charming band of gentlemen are the consummate hosts. They address each of their guests by name. Guests from all over the world stay at the Red Tree House, and each morning at breakfast it was fun to meet new people and hear what plans everyone had for the day. Late afternoon happy hours provided a wonderful time to share our adventures and enjoy a complimentary glass of wine or delicious Margarita. Try finding that at a Sheraton!

We stayed at this B&B on the recommendation of a friend, and we are so very glad we did! It really is more like a boutique hotel, since it was built for the purpose of entertaining guests, and it has over 20 rooms available.
The place is spotlessly clean, but the real charm lies in the people who run it. Owners Jorge and Craig are very warm and helpful, as are all the members of their staff. They seem to be genuinely interested in their guests, often joining them in conversation at breakfast (where each day, there was a different special dish) or when they return from touring late in the afternoon (over a glass of wine). No question is too banal for them to answer. We received assistance in finding the closest bus stop, and the nearest subway station and bank machine, and, of course, daily recommendations and directions to good restaurants in the Condesa area. When my friend needed some medical tape for a blister, Eduardo, the young man on duty that evening, went with us to the pharmacy to help us with the request. Later, he walked us to our restaurant, lest we get lost.
The warmth of the place is infectious; guests are happy to see each other each day. Twice, we ended up having dinner with folks we had not met until a few minutes beforehand.
This place made us enjoy Mexico City all the more. We really did not want to leave.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the street may experience more noise on a weekend night.

The reviews do not exaggerate. This is like coming home...Owners Craig and Jorge truly do treat guests like family and are always tending to guest´s needs. It does book fast as there are only 17 rooms (with 5 more across the street)...You will also have a dog to pat and walk...Abril is the sweetest Lab ever. Nice breakfasts, comfy rooms, modern design with lots of original artwork in a beautiful old colonial home. A true oasis in this bustling city.

Room Tip: If you´re solo, the tree house room looks cozy with it´s own patio...If you need 2 beds, book either...

The staff here are warm and accommodating that they always make us feel as if we are their only guests. This is a lovely place in a wonderful location, Condesa. Although it is tricky for many taxi drivers to find, you can get directions from the airport and from Terminal de Norte in English and in Spanish from their website.

I decided at last minute to take a quick detour on my way home from Zihuatanejo, in Mexico City. I stayed in a courtyard room on the first floor at the Red Tree House. The taxi from the airport had a hard time finding it but luckily with a smart phone anything is possible! Once we were in Colonia Condesa, it was easy to find and super centrally located in that neighborhood. Yellow house - big tree. As everyone has mentioned, the hosts are beyond gracious and friendly. They speak perfect English - very hard to find in that city - and will help you as much or as little as you like. Breakfast is served daily, with a buffet offering of cereals, breads, yogurts and such; and the kitchen prepares one signature Mexican dish each day (during my stay we had an omelet with pico de gallo and a mole chicken tortilla dish. Both were good. The kitchen will also make you simple eggs, as I watched them do so for an British couple who preferred this option.
My room was comfortable and homey - I had the best sleep I'd had on my vacation while there. The courtyard evening happy hour should not be missed - I had some great conversations with fellow travelers, and at least one of the hosts is always around - drinks (wine and beer) are complimentary! I did have some noise from the courtyard during my stay - and I would imagine this is normal since the noise echoes. I was traveling alone and didn't mind it at all, because I felt like I was in a little community. If you want a perfectly quiet stay, ask for a room facing the street or up on a higher floor. The grounds were absolutely modern, beautiful and clean. Best of all, it is located in a perfect area for exploring restaurants and bars, jogging the park, and intermingling with the residents of the Colonia. When checking out, be aware that they do offer to waive the 19% tax on your remaining bill, if you pay in cash - which is a great deal.
Loved the experience and will definitely be back.

This is an outstanding B&B hotel. You will be hard put to find better accomodations, friendlier service, great breakfasts, fun cocktail hour, nor better people to deal with. But......You must be a seasoned traveller, as it is not located in a tourist supported area of the city; it is located in the Condesa district that is a good upper middle class area, with very local support but a little less support for the new traveller. What do I mean? ......the sidewalks are in need of repair, very little street lighting and activity close by to make you feel comfortably safe, you might prefer to call a cab instead of venturing to the Metro in the evenings for this reason, and you would need the hotel staff to call a cab for you because there aren't any waiting close by in the area. Just little niceties, but imperatives if you have not travelled to strange places before.
With that all said, I encourage you to book here if you think you can overcome those fears. It is the best ever over the last 27 years of my traveling the world! It won't be easy. It has been discovered.

Room Tip: Request a room in the main complex to share in the friendliness of gatherings in their courtyard

Very friendly, food was great, very clean everywhere. This is a very special place, in a special area of town, away from the hustle and bustle. We had some of the best breakfasts of our entire trip. You'll be certain to make new friends at this place.
