We spent a week at the Royal Colonial in July 2013. We had a 2 bedroom suite on the second floor at the front of the hotel. The suites are very spacious and very nicely decorated. The hotel is about 6-8 months old. New construction with an classical Mexican feel. Modern bathroom facilities and showers, wifi, microwaves and small refrigerators (one in each bedroom area).
The 2 bedroom suites are designed to be "locked off" into separate living areas. The open living/dining/kitchen area is quite large. The windows that face the outside are all stained glass and are amazingly beautiful! There are also "frosted" windows that face into the 5 story atrium to add additional light to the space.
There is a secured underground parking area for vehicles which is convenient but can be noisy for those rooms on the lower floors.
The breakfast consists of fruit, yogurt, cereal, toast (melba style), juice and milk. The china is very nice. There is a large table, 10 chairs & a china cabinet which holds custom made ceramic liquid containers that are used for the juice and milk each day. This is a great area to meet other guests and exchange stories of adventures in and around Mexico City.
Although the staff do not speak very much English (except for the facility/maintenance manager) - they are very accommodating and try their best to make sure your stay is comfortable and enjoyable.
Great hotel in a terrific location ant a very reasonable price - it cannot get much better!!
The location is excellent. You are only a couple of blocks away from the restaurant district of Polanco. There are many banks in the area and it is only a 10 minute stroll along the beautiful treed Horacio Street to a Superama grocery for items to stock your fridge.
A 10 minute walk will bring you to Lincoln Park and Reforma Avenue. A short taxi ride ($100 pesos) will get you to the downtown areas such as Zona Rosa & the Zocalo/Centro HIstorico.
