“a very good bnb in the heart of the DF”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 22, 2014

Exc location, service, price. I wd recommend this bnb principally to younger people and to those who know DF. It is in the middle of an up-and coming neighborhood with exc opportunities for an evening stroll.

I stayed at Distrito Condesa once before and just did again - it was wonderful then and has come together even better since. There's a beautiful patio full of plants in the back now, as well as a great common area if you want to relax, sit, work, or just take it easy after a long day touring Mexico City. Carlos is awesome and really helped me make the most of my time in Mexico City. Can't wait to come back again!

We really enjoyed our stay at Distrito Condesa. We had a room downstairs off the courtyard with a small kitchen and an extra bed for our son. It was clean and pretty, with internet and a large TV we hardly used. (We did use the kitchen. There's a nice vegetable market a few blocks away in a blue building on Avenida Michoacan, so we'd make salads and such.) The staff is wonderful. Breakfast every morning was a treat, with coffee, fruit, yogurt, cereal and something hot. Our room was always scrupulously cleaned. The neighborhood is an easy one to come home to, with lots of trees, pretty buildings, restaurants, bars and such. (There's a famous place down the street for Tacos al Pastor. Go!) The street itself is quiet. Joggers are close to some great parks. The Metro (Patriotismo) is not far away. You are within walking distance of Parque Chapultepec, Roma, the Zona Rosa, even the Zocalo (although you will feel that one.) Our only problem, and a minor one, was that guests sometimes arrived late, late at night and chatted right outside our door, which, even in hushed voices, was really loud in our room. I don't think they knew we were there. Other than that, a really nice place.

Room Tip: Suite Seven, downstairs, has a kitchen and room for an extra bed, but, as reported, it can be a litt...

Nice funky bed & breakfast in a cool, hip part of Mexico City with some nice touches in the rooms, which are amazingly quiet. I loved the easy style of this house and its peaceful ambience, like an oasis I could return to after days spent touring the city. Friendly personal attention from the owner Alessandro really made the difference: he was always available to help (in really good English) with restaurant recommendations, bookings and advice on tours and other interesting things to do during my stay. Make sure to go to the restaurants and bars located nearby for a fun night out! Excellent value for the money, with much better service than bigger establishments. Distrito Condesa I will definitely be back!

The room was ok, but the noise here is a big issue. Not just because of the design but because there is one guy that works there at night who just bangs doors and coughs all night long. It's as though he's right outside your window! Besides that, the other people that work there are amazing. Neema along with the cleaning and cook ladies are delightful. I'm just not convinced it's worth the money compared to other places I've stayed in Mexico City.

Room Tip: Opt for one of the rooms upstairs, NOT the ones through the courtyard.

I do not like writing bad reviews, but in this case I must. I love visiting Mexico and Mexico City and have a fair grasp of what to expect from a B&B here. There were some positives about Distrito Condesa. The location is excellent within a wonderful part of the D.F. Also, the room we had was nicely decorated and clean. And yes, for $85 (cash price), this is (should be) a good value. Yet there were so many negatives. We arrived at noon and were given a less than warm reception although our room was ready. We were asked to pay at the outset of our stay. Well, ok, we did that without hesitation, but it would have been nice to have known that expectation ahead of time and to have been offered a receipt in return (I got one later, but why did I have to ask?). The day staff did offer some help during our stay (a good restaurant recommendation, printing boarding passes, and getting us an early morning taxi), but she otherwise seemed uninterested in providing good customer service. The power in our room went out two mornings in a row, and our hot water never worked properly (alternating between scalding and cold during a shower every day), and the on-site manager seemed blasé about getting any of it fixed. Beyond that, the room was very small with 2 feet of shelf space, a small desk, and one 3-foot long rod with hangers to store belongings. Besides being small, the rooms are not well soundproofed—a problem because ours sat next to the central stairway and directly above the reception area—thus chatter, etc. is likely to be heard clearly in your room. The breakfasts were ok but nothing special. Perhaps the central reason for our poor rating is that the owners do not run the place, and the staff seem to have little sense of how it should be done. All of it doesn’t add up to a winning combination or a good place to stay. Next time we stay in the Condesa neighborhood, and we will go back, we’ll choose a B&B that is more like a home, run by people who care about the quality of their guests’ travel experience.

Room Tip: avoid Room 4
