“A Functional Hotel, but with a Bad Lobby/Restaurant”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 29, 2012

I stay regularly at this hotel during my business trips.

The location in Santa Fe is very convenient, as it is just in front of a new shopping mall full of shops, restaurants and even a great supermarket (Chedraui).

The hotel is very functional. Rates usually includes free wifi and breakfast, which is a big plus. The hotel even have a nice gym and a full open swimming pool at the terrace, which is fantastic.

The rooms are roomy, but somehow basic (nothing fancy). Still, they have everything that you need for a good sleep and to do some work.

The employees are all extremely friendly and helpful.

The main negative of the hotel is the lobby area and restaurant. Although the area has just been renovated, it is still not inviting at all.

First of all, the lobby does not have a real bar, but just some seats near a giant TV screen (???). In the middle of the lobby, separating it from the restaurant, there is a counter, with a fridge facing the lobby, with lots of visible food inside!!!!!! It looks like a deli. Not sure who's horrible idea was it.

The restaurant is OK for breakfast (has a buffet), but is horrible for dinner. The menu never changes significantly (at least during the last 2 years). All dishes are very heavy, very prepared and with lots of sauces. Other than a grilled chicken plate (which is the only thing that I can order), all other plates are fattening and full of carbs. They never have fresh juices, so even the available drinks are unhealthy.

The restaurant offers a pre-fix menu daily, but with weird selections (Vietnam menu, Indian menu, etc.). It appears that the chef is trying too hard to look international and knowledgeable, but he/she forgets about healthy, clean foods. This is interesting, because the hotel market itself as a "natural" hotel.

To make matters worse, the restaurant for dinner is always empty, so it is really depressing dinning there. It appears that the hotel does not care at all about changing that. In three occasions during this trip, coworkers met me at the lobby to have dinner, and immediately suggested a different place. By the way, the hotel next door (JW Marriot) has a magnificent restaurant (CAU) with a great buffet. And it has the same prices as Novotel's!!!!

Overall, I like the hotel for its functional nature. But PLEASE, change that restaurant!

Had to travel for business and felt like home. All staff is very friendly. The elevators have a security system that avoid outside people get into guest rooms floors. Breakfast Service is very good, variety and flavor excellent.

Room Tip: I stayed @ a regular rooms, I am not sure if there is a different one.

During breakfast in the main floor. 2 people entered and grabbed my bag from the table. There is not way the hotel was not involved in some way. You can not exit the hotel and the main area without not passing security and valet parking...
They help me to go to make the declaration to the police but the hotel did not responde with any coverage or insurance, taking into the account I was inside their property.
Not only that, they charge me for the 4 nights.
In the Police Station they where not suprised I was arriving...they told me they received a lot of cases from there.

Great location, however renovations are underway with half floors being closed. I had a premier room and was redirected several times by signs and walked an age in reverse direction to find my rom. Room service menu could also do with a refresh.

Room Tip: Avoid the renovations

Dear Guest, thank you so much for your comments.

I inform you that this was the last part of our renovations process, re-carpeting the corridors accessing the floors have just been completed.
As you may have noticed, in February 2012 we just finished the renovation of the social areas, restaurant, bar and reception.
I thank you for the comprehension; we have worked to serve you better!

If you are looking for a hotel in Santa Fe, you would have a lot of options. However, Novotel is as good as any and for a budget traveller might be a good option. The rooms are fairly spacious and the people are really really nice. However, if you are travelling as a tourist you might want to get a place close to the city centre. Novotel does help arrange for sightseeing tours to Teotihuacan and city tour.
There is also a shopping centre right opposite the hotel.

Room Tip: Look for a room facing the road. The other side just looks over the adjacent hotel.

This was my second stay at Novotel Mexico. This is a very nice hotel, with a great cost benefit. The rooms are very nice the staff is friendly and helpful. The impression I had was that the Novotel improved since Jun/10 when I was here for the first time. Just be aware that Santa Fe is not the best location in Mexico DF if your office is not in this neighborhood.

Under no circumstances arrive with your car or a rental car....the motor lobby is extremely small and is shared among several tenants, so even getting into the motor lobby is tough. In the afternoon and evening, they allow cars to park on the curbs and any available space, so its difficult to even get to the valet service. Its difficult to see the one and only entrance when arriving due to the neighboring office building, which blocks a view of the ingress situation. Otherwise, the service is good, they have free Internet service which works reasonably well and the rooms are clean and neat with a lot of workspace. The hotel is close to the Bancomer Expo Center, but despite the proximity, it is a difficult walk due to the layout of Santa Fe. It is difficult to see the hotel from a distance due to all the new office towers that have been constructed around it.
