I've now travelled on two separate occasions with Bamba, and love the trips they offer and the team who run everything. My first experience was back in 2006 when they first got off the ground in Mexico, and I have just come back from Peru with them as well.
What I love about their trips is the flexibility, their routes & recommendations, meeting other travellers and the rock bottom prices. But let me tell you about my experiences with them.
Like I said, my first experience was back in 2006 when they first started-up, I travelled with them from Mexico City to Oaxaca, then on to Bamba Beach, Mazunte, and ended in Puerto Escondido. Everything was really well organized, and what I really liked is that their trips blended both the key sites everything wants to see as well as some off the beaten path locations and activities. One unforgettable location they took us to was Bamba Beach which was an isolated beach at the foot of these massive sand dunes where we slept on the beach, swam in a lagoon where there was phosphorus plankton which lit up the entire lagoon, and in the morning, we went fishing with a local fisherman and then his wife cooked us the fish which was one of the best meals I have had in my life. And all of this was with some amazing people that I met along the way in various hostels and sites that we were visiting. I actually had to cut my trip short, and they not only helped me change my ticket but also helped me fly out of Puerto Escondido although the flight and my homeward-bound journey wasn't even with them!
My second trip was to Peru. And again, I had a once in a lifetime experience. Key moments was booking the Salkantay Trek through Bamba - which they recommended. Its much better than the Inca Trail that everyone else does. You see so much more and trek to through Alpine areas and also through Jungle which is amazing. The group of people I travelled with were great, and what really helped was the guide which not only acted as a guide but showed us a really good time. I was a bit out of shape, but the guide accommodated everyone in the group so that the slower ones (me!!) were happy as well as the mountain goats. Another point I really have a fond memory was the food during the trek which was amazing. Bamba had organized a great chef who cooked us some amazing food throughout and supplied us with our calorific needs. During the trip, I decided to change parts of my trip as I met some great people who were heading to Puerto Maldonado (a jungle outpost 10 hours from Machu Picchu) - Bamba not only made all of the necessary changes, but they booked us all on a great tour - we stayed in some great lodges, took boat trips along the river, and saw some amazing wildlife which our guide tracked down for us.
Another great experience, and I can't wait to travel with these guys in another corner of the world. Thanks Bamba!
