“Great location, nice hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 3, 2011

Just stayed here for 3 nights while on an escorted tour of Mexico. The hotel was surprisingly good, very wellsituated, right next to the main square, within easy reach of all local shops and restaurants. The room was clean and comfortable, with coffee maker,TV, hairdryer and safe. The beds were extremely comfortable and fantastic shower with plenty of towels, and bottled water supplied. Breakfast was buffet style on the 6th floor of the hotel, with wonderful views over the Cathedral and mainsquare,,and on the balcony a feeded for hummingbirds which we saw often coming to feed - wonderful. Breakfasts consisted of cereals, toast, yogurts, juices, pastries, bread, eggs, bacon, sausages, hash browns and also some mexican specialities like nachos in guacamole, quinoa in corn leaves, chicken with peppers. If you visit the local restaurants, you must try the mexican speciality of Chiles en Nogada - a large mild chilli pepper, stuffed with spiced meat and vegetables and covered in a nutty sauce - it's delicious.

We had a great view right on the Plaza across from the Cathedral. A very comfortable hotel, clean and convenient to everything. The desk staff was very helpful, except for their lack of advice about how to take the local buses (they seem impossible to decifer anyways). I'd recommend it to anyone.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the Cathedral.

This hotel is bang on the main square (Zocalo) so if you want the sights and the shopping its all around you.
Rooftop dining with good food and fantastic view or there are plenty of places to eat out within an easy walk. Attentive staff - nice and clean.

Room Tip: Ask to overlook the square, noisy but great views.

Stayed here for a friend's wedding with a large group from the U.S. The hotel is very comfortable, clean, and we had excellent service all weekend. The patio bar and breakfast area overlooks the Zocolo which was a great start to the day or perfect for an evening nightcap. Right in the middle of everything, the Zocolo, Cathedral and President's palace were all within 1/2 a block. Great pedestrian mall nearby too. Far more charming than I expected for a Holiday Inn!

I went back and forth on whether to give this 3 or 4 stars. I was extremely disappointed as a PC Plat at not receiving any acknowledgment of my status whatsoever, didn't receive an upgrade or even so much as a free breakfast but for the vast majority of people reading this, that is irrelevant so I wont take it into account.

The hotels website lists it as a 5-Star hotel. That is a joke. This place is not 5 star, it is not even 4 star. It is a solid 3 star hotel, nothing more. The only thing 5-star about this place is the location. The location simply can not be beat. That was the reason that I chose it. The restaurant on the 6th floor is gorgeous, stunning, can't say enough about it. The food was good, and reasonably priced for dinner with an incredible view. Service was ok, but only 1 waiter spoke passable English. The breakfast buffet was ok, but at 150 pesos, way overpriced.

Free internet was extremely fast, perhaps the fastest I have ever experienced in a hotel.

The lobby was small and cramped. The rooms were also small but very pretty. The bed was firm but comfortable. Great water pressure and very hot water in the large shower. They should have used some of that shower space elsewhere. The A/C in the room was very powerful and kept the room very cool. You did have to insert the key into the thingy to make the lights and AC work so once you left the room everything would turn off.

The staff were very pleasant and the front desk staff all seemed to speak good English.

Do not go here and expect a 4 or 5 star hotel but it is a very nice Holiday Inn in the best location in the city!

I want to thank the staff at the Holiday Inn Zocalo for their outstanding customer service and all the help they provided me and my guest this last week.

When mu fiance and I were looking for the ideal hotel to host our out-of-town-guests for our wedding, the Holiday Inn Zocalo provided us with affordable rates, comfortable rooms, and great service that allowed our guests to enjoy themselves, make reservations easily online and via e-mail, as well as be located steps from Mexico City's landmarks. In addition, they helped us book a shuttle that could take our guests to and from the wedding venue safely and timely, making the transportation arrangements easy for us and our guests.

In addition, the Holiday Inn Zocalo staff helped our English speaking guests in a variety of ways such as booking safe taxis to take them around, finding reliable tours to places such as Teotihuacan, and giving good ideas about things to do around the area.

The staff - from the reservations to the housekeeping crew- were kind, resourceful, professional, and welcoming!

I have no doubt we will be returning to the Holiday Inn Zocalo in the future!

Check in was exceedingly slow at this hotel. When we were checking in there were three couples trying to check in and it seemed as though the staff were out of their depth. The rooms (we stayed there twice) were very small with no space for luggage. Perhaps if guests paid extra for a larger room that might help but the standard rooms were not good. The location of the hotel is its best feature as it is right on Zocalo Square. It is a minutes walk to the square where there are a number of things to see. The hotel restaurant is on the top floor so diners can look out over the square while having a meal. It can be noisy at the hotel if there happens to be a festival or concert etc in Zocalo Square. If I stayed there again I wouldn't stay in one of the hotel's standard rooms.
