The Latin American Tower was the tallest building in Mexico until the 1970s. It's not quite 50 stories, but you can still get a terrific view because there are not a lot of tall buildings around Mexico City. Here's the trick- do not purchase a ticket (70 pesos) to go to the Observation Deck. Tell them you're going to the bar, which is a floor lower, and they won't charge you. At the bar, order a beer (60 pesos) or a sangria (70 pesos) or a cocktail and sit back and enjoy the view. We went on a Thursday and were the only people in the bar. There is also a restaurant, but we didn't visit it. It was a mostly-clear day, and we had great views of the entire city, and spent a while picking out landmarks, like Chapultapec, the Zocalo, etc. If you need to use the restroom, this is the place to do it. It's one floor down (just ask the hostess) and in the ladies' restroom, one stall is right next to the glass wall. A surreal experience, to say the least.
