5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 4, 2013

There are not enough words to describe this excellent place. If you pass by the place, chances are that you will not even notice it is there. There is no sign on the street to indicate the location, but once inside, you are taken to another place- the decor and ambiance of the place make you feel more than welcome, almost as if though you are at your second house. The rooms are spacious, ours was the 'Oaxaca', which is simply breath-taking. The staff is top-notch, going above and beyond any expectations, and the food is delicious! Definitely a place to rev

The staff had been very helpful and comforting before I ever left for Mexico City. I was alone, knowing little Spanish, a short trip into a different country for the first time. They guided me and put me more at ease before I ever met them. Going through the big iron gate and entering inside I imagined entering a secret place. For myself I was on an adventure for 4 days. Being there I always felt safe and comfortable. All the staff was friendly even if the few who understood less English. Sometimes I think, " I miss my room", (actually a suite) . I hope to better my Spanish and return there to my hideaway and friends.

El Patio 77 was recommended to my wife and I for our honeymoon. This place has great style- big rooms, big windows, antique and modern furniture, very eco-conscious (using grey water for the toilets, motion sensor lights in the common areas), and the breakfast is simple, but delicious, with fresh juices/fruit, local ingredients, and coffee.

It's also close to El Centro/Zocalo, Colonia Roma, Condesa, Polanco, Zona Rosa, and Reforma. The San Cosme metro stop is a few blocks away on the blue line, and makes it easy to get to wherever you want to go. It's five stops to the Zocalo, one transfer to Polanco, only two transfers to Condesa and Chapultepec Park.

The staff and owners are super cool, laid back, speak really good English (but will speak Spanish with you if you want), and have great recommendations for where to go and what to eat at any price range. I recommend Tacos El Güerro-it's inexpensive and has amazing tacos for a great price (7 pesos for Al Pastor, 10 con queso- many more kinds of tacos too).

We had a great time. Alan was very kind and had great style too. I totally
recommend this hotel.

Hello
It makes us really happy to read that you enjoyed your whole stay with us.
Every day we try to improve El Patio 77 through your opinions and recommendations.
Sometimes is funny with the language because native english speakers want us to speak spanish and native spanish people want us to speak in english
The good thing is that all of us understand each others.
Kind regards

We stayed three nights last week and on the whole really enjoyed El Patio 77. I would have to agree with the mosquito issue and am glad to hear it is being looked into. The city cools down at night and the area is quiet so sleeping with the windows open seemed logical, but the mosquitoes were relentless. that said, it didn't ruin my experience overall. Everyone was so friendly and helpful, and the breakfasts were a nice way to start the day. We stayed in the Oaxaca room which looks exactly as advertised. The only other advice I would have is they request you use the provided biodegradable soaps due to their water filtration system. My skin freaks out easily so I would've liked to have known that in advance so I could've brought my own biodegradable soap.

The location is great, we loved getting a feel for the city in a less touristy neighborhood and the walk to the subway is easy. I would definitely recommend El Patio 77 and would stay again.

We generally enjoyed our stay at El patio 77. It was fun staying in an older restored home of a wealthy family in what today has become a working class neighborhood, away from all the tumult and commotion of the Centro. We enjoyed the high ceilings, techos de bóveda, large windows, stately staircases, and art and artistry all around us. The shared bath proved not to be a problem. Breakfasts were prepared with love and affection and there was only one repetition in our seven day stay. The staff was friendly and helpful and made us feel at home. There is a library featuring books about Mexico City for all to enjoy and benefit from. Our bed was comfortable and beautifully made for us every day. There was no change of bath towels for the week, but perhaps that is to be expected in a bed and breakfast calling itself "sostenible." Perhaps our only problem during our stay in mid-May was that if we opened our windows at night, the room was full of hungry mosquitoes. If we did not open them, we were uncomfortably warm with no air stirring through the double-paned windows. Sleeping was difficult without fresh air flowing through the room. (The staff provided us with a plug-in device to help ward off the bugs, but alas it did not work.) So we chose to open the windows to get some cool air at night to be able to sleep and went home with more than a few bites.

Room Tip: Perhaps choose a room facing the court yard rather than the outside to avoid the mosquitoes when win...

As other reviewers have noted, el patio 77 is quiet, beautifully designed, and spacious to say the least. However, the neighborhood was a bit secluded from many tourist spots and dining options. Be prepared generally for very long walks or having to depend on taxis and taking the metro when going out at night. Mezzo mezzo was an exception however and was a lovely 15 minute walk south where we had yummy dinner of affordable pizzas and salads. Breakfast was simple and tasty, the neighborhood was quiet, and safe feeling. I did find the price to be a touch expensive (common, no Eco TV?), but I suppose we are charged not only for the facilities and amenities but also for the hip, social conscious attitude of the establishment.

Hello
Thanks a lot for your comments, they are really helpful to improve our B&B.
We think that walking along the neighborhood and taking the subway to get to museums, restaurants and other attractions show our guests the real Mexico City.
The main neighborhoods around here are not so far..just like 15 minutes walking.
We are happy to read that in general you enjoyed your stay with us.

The environmentally aware aspect of El Patio was the reason for us choosing to stay there. But what we hadn't anticipated was the beauty of the building-photos cannot convey how spectacular El Patio is. In addition all the staff were professional and helpful. We were very appreciative that they were able to accomodate us as vegans with a really great breakfast daily provided without fuss or stress. Thank you everyone at El Patio we hope to return soon but meanwhile you are in our dreams! Ginny and John
