“Excellent location and pretty decent hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 weeks ago

It was my first time in Mexico city and I wanted to stay somewhere just near the train station. Good thing Hotel Plaza Florencia is just walking distance to the Insurgentes metro train and bus stations. It is also a nice starting point for tours, most of my tours from viator.com would pick up at this hotel so it's a plus.

I was there around Día de la Independencía or México's independence day and there were a lot of road closures going on. Good thing the location is nicely placed near the Plaza de Reforma so I was able to see the marching of Mexican Armed Forces during the independence day festivities which passes through the Angel de la Independencía to Centro Historico.

The hotel itself is pretty decent. A bit old but for the price I think it is already too generous. The staff are friendly, can speak good English and willing to help you and whatever way you can. It's also really close to the night life. Although Zona Rosa is a gay district it is also close to Condesa and Roma which are good nightlife and party spots.

Overall I enjoyed my stay in Plaza Florencia and I don't mind staying there again whenever I'm in Mexico city.

The air conditioning never worked. The staff are mostly not very friendly or interested in problems or questions. I got stuck in the lift one afternoon for ten minutes . I rang the alarm 15 times. I got in on floor 11 and got out on floor 6 and had to walk the dirty staircase down to lobby . I told the reception staff. Totally didn't care or had any apology. I was shocked and disgusted by such rudeness. Prices of food for room service is very over priced and standard average. Breakfast is too much for nearly 14 dollars in buffet style. Much better and cheaper out in a cafe in zona Rosa. Try sanborns or Vips nearby.

Location: safe neighborhood with plenty of restaurant options in walking distance. Metro only 5 minutes by foot away. Walk to Bellas Artes is about 40 minutes.

Room:
Clean rooms but older furniture. We had a room facing the Florencia street. If you can try to get a room not facing the street, there is a night club across the street that is quite noisy.

Staff:
Friendly. No problems.

WiFi:
A little unstable but worked most of the time.

I would go there again if in Mexico City again.

The hotel is a 2-star equivalent in the US. It is very clean, but the room is relatively small. There is no fridge nor microwave in the room, but given the food options around the hotel, you don't need them anyway (see the food options below). The bathroom has a shower but no tub. Basic soap and shampoo are provided.

The receptionists are very nice and helpful. I called about breakfast, and one informed me that conditional breakfast is included in the price :)

Location:

You cannot beat the location of the hotel! It I located 5-minute walk away from the monument of independence, and 15-minute walk away from a mall (Plaza 222). There are MANY food options within minutes of the hotel. The case de tono is a Mexican place that serves traditional Mexican food. It is very reasonably priced for the portion and the quality. There are two Chinese buffet around. They are very cheap (~ 82 pesos a person), and the food is acceptable (mediocre). Mr. Kochi, a Korean restaurant, is awesome!!! It serves authentic Korean BBQ and other Korean dishes! It is on the pricier end but it worth every peso. High suggested!!!

Suggestion for future travelers:

Don't forget your own toothbrush :)

Located in Zona Rosa, this hotel is in a safe, but busy neighborhood. There are many restaurants--Casa De Tono is around the corner on Londres and worth the wait. The rooms are clean and the staff is pretty helpful, but it is a busy hotel, so if you need help, it might be best to use the computer around the left from the front desk for information you can look up yourself. There is a hotel on site, but we did not eat there and breakfast was not included in our stay. My only critique would be about the Wifi access. It is quite spotty and so if you need access, then it is best to sit in the lobby where the signal is strong. I could get access sometimes, but it was inconsistent in the room. Our room faced the street and was quite noisy late at night and early in the morning as the hotel is on a busy street. The hotel is very convenient to the metro--just two blocks away.

What can i say? - it seemed like a great deal initially - but you do get less than you paid for. The only good thing about this hotel is that its staff seems to speak more English than anywhere else. When we entered our room the sink was not emptying out - we waited much longer than promised for it to be fixed. The room remained ice cold throughout which was really uncomfortable - we had to ask for extra blankets - but that did not help the freezing floor. Every single thing in the room including the water, the coffee was chargeable. We needed to make a local phone call from the room (for food delivery) and were told that we would have to go down and give them a security deposit to be able to do that - despite the fact that they already had my credit card details. The cost was about a dollar that i was supposed to make a deposit for! The lady at the reception told us an incorrect cost for the hotel taxi to the airport and said that she was unaware of cost changes. Lots of things for just 24 hours!

The hotel is very well located, around Zona Rosa, you can easily walk around 3AM and nothing will happen, the staff is very helpful, they offer tours and taxi cabs when you need them, WiFi is really good, the room was great, very clean and big beds, nice value for this hotel, definitely will visit again.

Room Tip: Higher floors are better for the view.
