Dear Mr. Giovanni, thank you for coming from California and select us as the Hotel of your preference. It is very important for us to know that you received an excellent service during your stay. We really appreciate your kind mention about our colleague Sergio; this talks very good about him and his labor in the Hotel. It will be a nice pleasure to have the opportunity to welcome you again!

We stayed for one night only, arriving late - leaving early at the end of a two week vacation around Mexico. The lobby and the lobby ceiling really are beautiful and echo an age (long) gone by in Mexico. Everything else in the hotel was very mediocre though. The flush on our toilet didn't work - we arrived late-ish, settled in and by the time we realised, we felt it would be too much hassle to try and explain to the staff etc... (we went out for dinner and left early in the morning so could use the toilet facilities elsewhere thankfully!).

Room decor was in-line with "a better than average chain" in US/Europe... bed was comfy.

The terrace was nice to have a drink on but the view itself was much better than the general ambience and presentation - they could make so much more of it.

Breakfast was a real let down. Eggs benedict took 20 minutes to make and came out with the sauce burnt and the eggs vinegary. The salmon and cream cheese bagels were terrible - the bagels were hamburger buns with holes cut out of the middle(!), the cream cheese was hard/cold, and the salmon was only ok.

We had asked for a room on a high floor with a nice view (if possible) on our booking request but we got neither (and the street below is really noisy!).

I still don't feel annoyed for having stayed there - the lobby really is beautiful but I bet there are nicer and cheaper hotels to stay at in Mexico City.

On the plus side the wifi is good, the taxi to the airport only costs 200 pesos, the staff were friendly, the tap water is filtered, the bed was comfy, and the sheets were very clean/decent quality.

Room Tip: Try for a high room with a nice view

This hotel is housed in an amazing historic building. I booked the king suite which was unnecessarily large however very comfortable, including a 4 poster bed and magnificent views across the square. Good quality amenties.

The hotel was very empty, perhaps due to demonstrations in the square.

The rooftop restaurant was great for drinks and dinner and the food was a reasonable quality and price.

The gym was pretty good, with modern equipment.

Breakfast, unusually for hotels these days is not a buffet, and is served in a slightly miserable restaurant on the ground floor and although the choice was reasonable, service was too slow.

Overall a good choice and a bit different to the chain hotels.

Thank you for your preference, we really appreciate your comments and your kind preference.
Therefore we feel very sorry to know you had such an opinion about our Breakfast. Be sure we would have loved to know what particular aspect you did not liked beside the agility of the service, which we assure you our Restaurant Manager is carefully watching. We dearly hope you consider giving our “Café Ciudad de Mexico” another chance on your next visit to our beautiful city. We trust you will notice the corrective measurements applied!

This hotel was very nice. It was convenient that the water in the hotel was filtered so you don't have to worry about any bottled water or anything. It is in a great location right on the Zocalo and close to shopping and restaurants. I did not have any problems. I needed a wake-up call and a taxi to the airport and both were right on time.

The concierge (Jose Luis) services were very much appreciated throughout our stay. Arranging my mother’s camera casing to be sent back to us in the US was even more appreciated. I travel a lot and have seldom seen so much dedication in providing quality services. It certainly played a big role in our enjoyment of these vacations.

We REALLY enjoyed our week stay at Gran Hotel Ciudad de Mexico! The hotel lobby is breathtaking and is ranked #2 most beautiful buildings in Mexico City (#1 is Palacio De Bellas Artes). We also really loved our master suite with 2 balconies that looked out at El Zocalo! The hotel was centrally located to EVERYTHING! Upon our arrival on Oct 3, we were greeted in front of the hotel entrance by Concierge Jose Luis Valadez! He totally made us feel so welcomed! Jose Luis was also very informative and suggested some amazing, fun tours that we really enjoyed. The 2 girls at the front desk, Cynthia and Minerva were also so sweet, helpful & ALWAYS smiling when we walked by their desk. Plus, they somehow found out it was my boyfriend's bday and delivered a small birthday cake to our room that evening. It was a wonderful surprise and gesture! We also loved the yummy breakfast and Viridiana Garcia, our waitress. She was so sweet, polite and made sure we were provided with the best service every morning! She always greeted us by name! Thank you Gran Hotel Ciudad De Mexico and staff for making us feel like royalty while on vacation! We will definitely be back!!

Room Tip: Rooms with a view of El Zocalo is a MUST to watch the soldiers line up and march from 7:50-8am to fl...
