“The BEST of the BEST !!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 25, 2013

If I ever stayed a better hotel, I simply cannot remember one.
It started with the reception, the second our taxi arrived where our bags were unloaded by hotel staff and taken to the front desk while we were checked in by a very friendly young lady.
Check in could not have been smoother, no wait, just smiles.
We were then taken to our room in one of the original 1800's elevators....WOW !!
Once at our room, we were shown all of the little details and were left alone to draw the curtains to the incredible nighttime sight of Zocalo !!
WHAT A VIEW !!!!
The restaurants...The food was only overshadowed by the great service.
The view on the rooftop restaurant was simply amazing !!
A little side note....On our day of departure, on arrival at the airport, my wife realized that she was missing a bracelet.
She called the front desk and they sent someone to our room to look for it.
They discovered it had dropped behind her night stand and they had a driver deliver it to the airport and it was back on her wrist in 30 minutes !!

I was in the hotel for 2 nights in April 2013, the room was perfect, it is very big and has all you will need, the building where is located the hotel is one of the most beatiful in Mexico downtown and is only half block of the Zocalo, the people who works in the hotel is very pleasant and helpful, I really recommed this hotel.

Room Tip: Quizas es mejor una habitacion lejos de los ascensores, creo que son mas silenciosas por la noche...

I've stayed in this hotel for 2 days. It's an triditonal hotel with old-European style decorations. The service is also old-European style.

Pro:
1. Perfect location! It's located in the center of Mexico City. Walking distance to any tourism attractions.
2. The room is clean and well facilitated.
3. The decoration of the hotel is elegant European style. Very nice.
4. Staff are professional.

Con:
1. The parking place besides hotel is owned by others. Hotel doesn't have its own parking place. I had a little problem with the operator of the parking place, not sure whether it's language problem or they intentionally did that. They charged me more than what they listed. And they don't speak any language other than Spanish.
2. Some minor issue of the facilities in the room. For example, the curtain of my room didn't work very well. But again, it was minor issue.

In summary, it's a good hotel and good choice in Mexico city. I may probably stay again.

We thank you for your sincere opinions about us. As you mention, unfortunately we do not count with a parking lot of our own. Nevertheless in order to provide our guests a parking option, we came to an arrangement with the parking lot next to that implies the application of a preferential guest rate by presenting the sealed ticket. Unfortunately if our guests do not ask our colleagues at the Front desk for this stamp, the Valets have no way of identifying this person as a guest and they avoid the discount.
Due to this we often encourage our guests to ask for any doubt or issue they might have so we can properly attend them with a personalized service according to their needs. We hope to see you soon!

This was a beautiful hotel located right on the Zolica in Mexico City. The hotel is beautiful and the rooms are very spacious. We found the staff very helpful and courteous. The front desk spoke English quite well.
The terrace is a great place to have a late drink and take in the sights at night. I can't really recommend the food but the mango margarita was great!
I would stay here again in a heartbeat.

Room Tip: We got our own cabs and saved a lot of money.

Thank you for staying with us. We feel very happy to know that you liked our hotel, which happens to be a remarkable example of Art Noveau and considered the most beautiful and magnificent building of capital, after the palacio de Bellas Artes. It is very nice to know you also had the chance of visiting our Rooftop terrace and that you enjoyed our Margaritas. Perhaps for your next stay you would like to communicate a special course request to our Cheff. He will be happy to prepare a course specially cooked for you.

What is not to like about the Gran Hotel ... it is gorgeous and located next to the central square in Mexico. The hotel, with all it's charm and beauty, would seem as if it should cost hundreds more. It is very convenient to see the main cathedral and central square and then go to the hotel when one needs to freshen up. The rooms were very clean which is important to us as we suffer from allergies to airborne irritants. The hotel service staff are very helpful and will set up private tours to varios attractions, including the stunning Pyramid of the Sun. Walking around the vicinity of the hotel is very safe and we saw dozens and dozens of police officers over the course of the day ... they typically walk in pairs and they are very friendly. For those who are not aware, the previous President of Mexico fired thousands of corrupt police officers several years ago ... the result is that the people they hired are more professional and seek to keep people safe as apposed to exploiting them. Of course, as in any large city, walking at night is safe as long as you walk in well lit and crowded areas ... which is exactly around the vicinity of the hotel.

Room Tip: My only critique of the hotel is regarding its policy for a 3rd guest. You pay a lot more, $30 or s...

We appreciate your comments. Without a doubt, our hotel is one of the most exclusive in the Mexico City and certainly, our greatest feature is that it is placed in one of the most elegant building which also contains a classic unique decoration. These are some key elements that briefly distinguish our majestic hotel. Another important aspect is our location since we are conveniently situated southwest from the Plaza de la Constitucion (Zócalo), from where you will be able to enjoy a privileged view of the National Palace, the Metropolitan Cathedral and the beautiful buildings of the Mexico City Government.

This hotel is located in the middle of the action, and in Mexico City is plenty, being the second most populated capital in the world. We spent three nights here, two in our way to Acapulco and one in our way back. First time we choose a junior suite facing Zocalo. Room was very clean and spacious and even people say that it comes a lot of noise from the main square, in the night was very quiet so you don't have to worry about this. The second time we choose a double bed room, facing the interior, also a very clean and big room. The staff is very helpful and nice, we received a lots of tips from them about tours, restaurants, souvenir shops etc. The hotel offers transportion to/from the airport in exchange of 165 pesos, about 14 USD. I will recommend this hotel to everyone who wants a real taste of Mexico DF.

Thank you very much for your comments. It is very pleasant to know that during your stay with us, everything was excellent. As you well mention, our hotel is located in the heart of the Historic Centre which is a great advantage to each of our guests since you can visit several places more easily. Concerning our rooms, each one of them has a unique design reflecting the ancient Mexico, full of elegance and tradition in order to feel at home. Our services are one hundred percent planned for a complete experience, thank you for your preference and we hope to receive you again very soon.

The Gran Hotel is a clean, well managed property with large rooms. We had a beautiful room, with both traditional windows that opened over the historic Zocalo as well as flat screen TVs. Best of both worlds and the elegant atrium is a nice quiet respite from the hustle of Mexico City.

There is a noise problem from being right on the square -- the weekends include plenty of street traffic and often there are demonstrations in front of the government buildings but being in the historic district near all the new pedestrian friendly areas is an excellent tourist friendly location. The staff are english speaking and very helpful. The top floor restaurant, while sometimes inexplicably closed, is a beautiful spot for breakfast.

Room Tip: Our room was actually a suite -- two rooms with a door that closed between them and TVs in both area...
