“The wonderful place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 24, 2014

I had seen in my life many churches in my life, butthis sanctuary in exceptional. The new churc is extra wonder of modern architecture. Impressive is also the schedule of the mass (all the day>).
Also surrundungs of the churces(gardens, roses are extremelly beautiful).
Bsilica Ladey of Guadalupe is must-see point in Mexico.

“Must visit!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 21, 2014

I visited the shrine on palm sunday this year. It was packed but it was very organized that you could go in for mass, get your articles blessed and climb up and down the hill in no time.

“Must-see cultural center”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 16, 2014

Our Lady of Guadalupe plays such a central role in the church in Mexico, this basilica is a must-see visit to appreciate the culture of the country. The site is very accessible by Metro. The walk to the basillica grounds is not far, and there are a ton of interesting vendors selling religious memorabilia along the way. At the site itself, there are quite a few churches and buildings to see. The largest is the new basillica. It is round and not very attractive. However, inside is where they picture of Our Lady of Guadalupe is kept. It is behind the altar, the the viewing area is in the back and underneath the altar. To see it, you get on a moving walkway in order to prevent people from crowding around it. I thought this idea was ingenious. The cloak looks every well preserved and is much brighter than I imagined.

The old basillica is interesting because it is very slanted. Walking inside could almost give one vertigo. Next to the basillica is a history museum. Or so we thought. It was actually painting after painting of the painting. A lot of recreations. It was actually interesting to see how much it had influenced a certain style of Mexican art. Also, after seeing all of these paintings, we began to notice Our Lady in paintings every where we went in Mexico City.

On the grounds, there are also stairs that go up a hill. This was a nice walk with pleasant flowers and garden along the way, and it had a great view of the city. Worth it if you are not rushed to get onto the next site.

“Prayerful place”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 15, 2014

On the whole it was fantastic: breathtaking and spacious. Plenty to see and do. Friendly stewards and guides.
What I didn't like was the lack of almost anything in English for tourists! I chatted with some American visitors there and they were looking for some prayers, novenas etc in English, but virtually nothing.
Plus the Turibus, although a great way to get there, can be quite slow and run late...
It is worth a visit, but be prepared to spend at least half a day, including travelling time

“Do a bit of reading beforehand if you don't have a guide”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2014

Our family enjoyed this site very much. Even just a bit of reading beforehand as to what this basilica is all about (its history) will help a lot. See not only the tilma in the new basilica, but also the old basilica, smaller but beautiful chapels on the same property, and the beautiful grounds. Everything was different and memorable.
