“Basilica de Guadalupe”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 8, 2013

Beautiful place! Wear comfortable shoes, tennis, sandals, etc The original image of Lady of Guadalupe from the 16th century is housed in this basilica, this is one of the top 10 sights. Behind the the old basilica there is a museum of religious art, and near there you will find steps leading to the capilla del cerrito and the hill of Tepeyac. from the top of the hill, left stone stairways has scenic views hillside waterfalls, manicured lawn and flowers, the cemetery del Tepeyac founded in 1660 the majority of the graves are patrimony of the national institute of anthropology and history witch preserve among other works art, The Angel of Silence a XIX century sculpture of crystalline carrara marble by the italian sculptor Adolfo Ponzanelli , unfortunately only with permission or legal right to the plot is possible to gain access , but the large iron gate allows a spectacular view to the cemetery! Besides the great views from the top there are several gift shops.

“Wasn't what I was expecting”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 6, 2013

The Basilica was a fairly new structure (built in 1978) which surprised me. Then, after touring inside the Basilica and the moving sidewalk for viewing the image, we went out into the main plaza where the old basilica remains. That was what I was expecting; except it was certainly a surprise. IT'S A MUST SEE!

“A must see for Catholics”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 4, 2013

I liked everything. The basilica has been made more pedestrian friendly. All street vendors are now located in a 3 level mercado made by Carlos Slim. Yes that Carlos Slim. As usual we brought back many souvenirs for friends and family. And yes we prayed alot for family and friends.

“Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 3, 2013

Beautiful scenery and depictions.Wear comfortable shoes and cover up a bit since you are going into holy place. Take alot of water, along with sunscreen, hat and sunglasses. Alot of walking and steps to go up to the Cierito at the top of the hill. The gift shop is one of the few places that credit cards are accepted for souvenirs in Mexico City. Purchase many souvenirs for family and friends back home that were reasonably priced and beautiful.

“Queen of Mexico”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 3, 2013

Our Lady of Guadalupe, as patroness of the Americas, has special significance to the migrant Mexicans and, by extension, migrants of all over Latin America. Our Lady of Guadalupe's role as mother of all in the Americas is very clear.
Tens of thousands of people travel to Mexico to venerate Our Lady of Guadalupe. What is most striking is not the number of people, but the number of nationalities and ethnicities represented in each gathering.
