Despite the crowds, I would urge anyone to visit this site. It is part of Mexican history and filled with the energy of so many who have pilgrimaged here. It is worth having a guide so you can understand its history. It helps you to understand the new cathedral that houses the original cloth.

“Huge!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 19, 2013

The old and new basilicas sit side by side - worth comparing. Fascinating to observe the true believers and the tourists.
This can be combined with a day out of the city visiting the pyramids.

The cathedral was beautiful and the way that it is arranged allows one to see close up the beautiful work without disturbing those attending services.

“Beautiful spanish built church”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 18, 2013

A beautiful old spanish built church. Gold was used for many features and the paintings and statues are beautifully made.
Worth a visit and to just sit down and take in the beauty and magnificent architecture of the early times.

“a place of Miracles”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 16, 2013

We took the tour of 3 cultures, Guadalupe and Teotihuacan with Wayak Tours. We spent around 35 minutes to see the cathedral as well as the basilica which is in one compound . The cathedral has the Blessed Sacrament exposed in its altar while the other , basilica has the image of the Lady of Guadalupe . According to our tour guide , since it was not a religious tour we just had a brief look at the place and so being catholic , we decided to go back to the place the following day , using the metro . We arrived there before 12 noon and confessions were being heard so we waited until 1pm for the mass. I would like to mention that we barely can speak nor understand spanish . Using the metro to go there was not hard as almost all the people we spoke to in english answers us in spanish , but nevertheless guided us on where and how to go there. Yeti , a lady we asked for direction even accompanied us and showed us where Guadalupe is. She even went out of her way to lead us to the church and went back to where she was supposed to go after . Mexican people are generally helpful and admirable . Guys would even give up their seat for us in the metro.
