“One of the worse hotels I’ve ever been !!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed January 22, 2013

I booked a Best Western as I have been in the Best western in Paris Boulogne & Podgorica, which were quite nice. I stayed there 2 nights, and ran away towards another hotel.

The good points:
- Large rooms (at least mine, #608)
- Good location (in front of the Zocalo)

The bad points:
- Disgusting lunch (the T-bone was an old piece of meat, without any color and smelling quite strange)
- Breakfast is very poor for the price (130MXN)
- Rooms are dirty: your feet are black of dust after 10’ walking in the room, never had that in any other hotel
- Rooms in the 6th floor are very noisy: in the day (even in the night !) some stupid drunk people are shouting on the place of Zocalo, and at breakfast/lunch/diner times the customers on the 7th floor make noise dragging their chairs & tables
- No fitness center (they have the space for that !)

I will never come back there again !!

Room Tip: Never in the 6th floor. And ... do not choose a room in this hotel !

This place has a great location, in the historical center of Mexico City, the building is gorgeous.
However, being and old building it needs special maintenance, more than regular modern buildings. This hotels lacks of this maintenance and you can feel just upon entering to your room. It was very humid inside, you can smell the humidity. The worst part was the closet, extremely humid, the smell was unbearable. I decided not to put anything in the closet and open the window for extra ventilation during the day.
Beds were not as confortable as expectel for a Best Western hotel. They felt old.
I got a room with a view over the Zocalo, gorgeous view, but if you want to have this view, please be aware that Zocalo is too noisy even at night, and you have to deal with Cathedral's bells from early morning.
I know location is the best, but it has some disadvantages, so consider them.
I must say that the staff was really helpful and the view from the restaurant on the top of the building is superbe.

Gee I just love this place. I stay elsewhere in Mexico City from time to time but always ultimately head back to the Majestic. The location, the windows facing out onto the Zocolo, the wonderful staff always make me happy. Ask for a room facing the Zocolo. If the beds are too hard, they have had foam pads to add on request.
There are drawbacks. Don't stay on the floor below the restaurant. It's very noisy there and they drag tables around over your head. The restaurant has horrible food but the view is fabulous.
A very endearing surprise might horrify some. At dawn, the Mexican army marches onto the Zocolo, plays the anthem on trumpets and raising the colossal flag. I always get a HUGE kick out of this, but it may a Mexican Army alarm clock may displease some.
Love this place.

The location was great easy and close to many attractions but the beds were the hardest I have ever slept on. It is located on the zocalo so the noise at night was often loud. The buffet was good and the service was good. It is a very old hotel so the fixtures and amenties reflect that.

Room Tip: Room on second floor facing the zocalo have a small balcony.

A group of 12- 2 nights at this hotel while our friends from US visited Mexico, I was confident based in the brand Best Western; It's promoted as 4 stars hotel.
The hotel is taking advantage as it has 'prestige' in Mexico as it was for sure a very good hotel but long time ago.
The rooms we had are way too old, but that is acceptable... What it's not and it was terrible to experience is dirt & torn old carpet, rust in the bathroom sink , old hard beds that you can hardly rest, the towels overused, torn and even with blood spots, but the worst were cockroaches at least in one room. Please read other reviews in this same page complaining about the same issues. The good part are the employees that make you feel welcome and are very nice in order to keep their jobs.

Room Tip: look for better options as there are good places around in order to enjoy your visit. If you need...

I appreciated the hotel's location as well as the history contained in the building. Loved the elevator. I loved looking down on the active streets below from our balcony as well as dining in the roof top restaurant overlooking the square. What I didn't like...the noise...it was incredibly noisy from the streets below (though it did tame down about 11 pm)...the beds...rock hard and likely old...and that one had to drag bags from the nearby street...so...a great location, a building steeped in tradition...but not the most comfy place to spend a night.

It was our last night in Mexico City and we wanted to pass a relaxing evening. We have noticed that hotel with the terrace overlooking the main square, and I have also read some good reviews about it, so we didn't want to keep looking around any more. After a day spent walking and sightseeing, after all the crowded streets, rush hours, markets and people, the restaurant offered us a moment of unexpected calm and silence.
The view of the Zocalo by night, city roofs and the Palace is wonderful!
As for food - all dishes were really good, well presented, cooked observing mexican tradition and we have really enjoyed it. I can not compare them to the mexican specialties as I do not have a comprehensive knowledge of their culinary tradition, but it was our best meal in 5 days we have stayed in Mexico City !

It was romantic, calm, silent, the food is tasty and the portions are really big. I would have loved to taste something else, but it was impossible to continue eating. The staff was really nice and they have explained patiently all the meals we didn't know what were made of. I would absolutely reccomend a dinner up on the terrace... you'll enjoy it, I'm sure.
