We arrived on a Saturday afternoon after a 6 hour bus ride from Oaxaca. The only downside of the whole three night stay was getting TO the hotel from the TAPO bus station. It was a rainy afternoon and the kind but honest taxi driver warned us that he would get us as close as possible tot he hotel, but that there had been a demonstration earlier in the day that had blocked the entrance to the centro historico that was closest to the Zocalo.
Well, if took most of an hour and promise of a generous tip, but out taxi driver got us right to the door of the Hotel Catedral. My amiga and I had a lot of luggage between the two of us, and.immediately a hotel employee swooped in to unload it al lfrom the trunk before it could get wet. The staff was friendly, efficient, sincere, and helpful. We had read a lot of the comments on this site and asked for a room with a view but that wouldn´t be too noisy. We were given room 615, with a view of the cathedral dome and double pane glass window so that we didn´t hear any more than the slightest suggestion of the night club nearby. With the white noise from the fan and AC you really don´t hear a thing outside the room.
We got the breakfast buffet the first day. It was perfect for our needs, but I woulnd´t have wanted to do it again. Please try Restaurante Cardenal on Palma between Cinco de mayo and Madero for breakfast or lunch.
