“Consistently an excellent choice.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 31, 2014

I recently stayed here with friends, and I was as pleased with it this time as I have been on several other occasions. Staff was helpful, the location is excellent (and serviced by a rank of several tourist taxis, with good vehicles and pleasant, confident drivers), and the restaurant is adequate and convenient.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that faces the interior patio. Rooms facing the garden and the street can be noisy.

I stayed here twice in 2013, for a total of 20 nights. Maria Cristina has an elegant reception and foyer, and a grassy courtyard for relaxing. The staff is helpful, and there normally is an English-speaker on duty (if that is needed). The attached restaurant is quite good, inexpensive, and staffed with good people. The neighborhood is very good--one block off the Paseo de la Reforma, near the U.S. Embassy and many banks and businesses. There are some truly exceptional restaurants within walking distance, such as the Casa Bell. A taxi sitio is associated with the hotel, which offers safety and decent standard rates to all the major spots. Ask for Gabino if you want a reliable and charming driver by the day. The rooms that face the courtyard are preferable, but all the 'deluxe' rooms are clean and modern, and include AC. The cost is far, far less than the tourist hotels in the Centro. This is a perfect base for seeing all the sights, without being in the bustle of the Centro.

Room Tip: Try to get a deluxe or better room that faces the courtyard.

The hotel is a cut above where I would normally stay but proved worthwhile in a city that can be quixotic and exhausting. While the zocalo seemed safe by day, being near the new part of the city felt safer and, while many of the other skyscaper hotels in the vicinity are of the charmless, anaemic type, at least Maria Christina had a bit of personality. The reception staff, while helpful, were a little confused at times, despite my partner's reasonable Spanish, but the reception area is attractive, the restaurant does a good breakfast and the grounds are pretty and relaxing. The rooms are adequate for the price. Nothing flash, but with everything you need after a hard day's walking around at altitude. The main selling point is the location - exactly half way between the zocalo and the museums of Chapultepec; not far from a metro station and close to some lovely coffee shops and trendy restaurants.

Room Tip: Ask for one with a view of the garden or the central courtyard. We didn't have one but it didn...

Maria Cristina has seen better days - the rooms are pretty tired, though clean, and could use simple amenities like a clock and coffee maker. Of greater concern is the front desk staff - not particularly friendly or helpful with basic questions about things like bus schedules, directions, etc. The garden is lovely and the bar is a nice place to hang out after a long day, but the hotel restaurant is a "must miss" - especially for breakfast. Location can't be beat for exploring the City.

I have stayed here many times over the years and always pleased. Great location, friendly helpful staff and overall very comfortable. Minor nits. A coffee maker would be great. And the
Tubs are high so a bar to hold would make it easier to climb in.

The property is in an excellent location just across Reforma from the Zona Rosa(and its high room rates). It has a beautiful garden and a traditional Mexican atmosphere.
I stayed there about 14 years ago. Nothing has changed, which is great insofar as the staff are still friendly and helpful, not so great as the rooms need some updating. However, for the price it's hard to beat.

Just off Reforma avenue this hotel is in a great location. Tip: if arriving by taxi tell them the Lerma road is right behind the main government building on Reforma as they will never find the hotel by name. Positives: staff friendly and helpful. Safe taxis with published rates right outside. Good restaurants in safe walking at night. Negatives: breakfast not included. If you have breakfast the servers chase you for a full tip when you pay. Best to go to nearby coffee shops, juice stalls or the mall. Internet charges of 80 pesos a day.

Room Tip: We took the first room offered which was small, hot and noisy. We asked to change the next day and g...
