“Honeymoon”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 17, 2014

We spend three nights at this 5 star hotel located at a very central and safe place of mexico city. Even if mexico city is not recommended for honeymooners the hotel is very nice. The breakfast buffet it was very rich and delicious! The room we stayed at the central building it was big with a very comfortable king size bed! The hotel is very clean but needs renovation. You need a car in order to see the top sightseeing of Mexico city.

Travelled with the family for my parent's 30th wedding anniversary. As I was doing my research, I thought it was a bit pricey, but then realized that it was definitely worth it. We reserved a junior suite that included butler service (that we didn't take advantage of), free breakfast and complimentary wi-fi. If you get the chance to get this type of rooms, definitely take advantage! It's worth it!
We arrived to the hotel relatively early (7am) before check-in, but luckily we had great service from Jonathan. We were tremendously tired from the flight and just wanted to rest. Even though he wasn't able to provide us a room right away, he was able to provide us with breakfast, which was a huge plus, and he also put our room as priority for cleaning and we were able to get our room at 11 am.
Upon our arrival to our room, we were surprised at how big, clean and comfortable everything was. Housekeeping did a good job every day. The only thing, and I think this shouldn't be an issue, but Sheraton should invest in modernizing the rooms, specifically talking about doors and sink handles which are kind of rough.
As for security, my mom is one of those that is scared of Mexico City because of it crime rate, but by the end of our trip, she said she felt safe at all times.
Overall, we had a great stay at the Sheraton, which is located in a convenient and safe area. All staff were friendly and welcoming! Most definitely recommend!

Room Tip: If you want to get a good glimpse of the Angel statue, make sure to book over the phone

The best location for a hotel that you can get in Mexico City as this is just across the street from the Angel de la Independencia monument on Reforma Avenue. The rooms are well maintained and it has the convenience of several stores in the ground floor.

The hotel is on Reforma right across from the bar/restaurant streets in Zona Rosa. There are plenty of dining options across the road - I also had breakfast at the Sanborns restaurant around the corner from the hotel. Walking to Torre Mayor is about 15 minutes. The hotel is well appointed, clean and has comfy beds and pillows.

The only problem was that the walls were very thin and each time the people in the next room opened their door or closet, i heard the noise. The closet lights are motion sensitive so each time the neighbour opened their closet, the light in mine went on ! Otherwise street noise is barely noticeable.
The money exchange at the hotel has very bad rates. change your money at the airport, after coming out of customs. the rate at airport was 11 Pesos for 1 C$. at the hotel : 9.72 Pesos.
One good sign was seeing air crew staying at the hotel - so you knew it was comfortable.

Room Tip: high floor

A few years back I heard Sheraton completed an update in their hotels spending a fortune. I guess this property was one of the forgotten ones. The hotel goes back to the 1960's and even though I have been told that the rooms were renovated 10 years ago, they still look they have not been touched since the 80's. You can see the wear from the sink faucets and handles. Those things never lie on telling the passing of time. It is a very busy hotel, mostly due to its privileged location right next to the US Embassy and with the Mexican Independence Monument in front in the Paseo de la Reforma avenue so I guess for the owners/managers shutting down floor by floor and renovate it like other properties that have gone through renovations in Campos Eliseos like the JW Marriott, the Intercontinental and the Hyatt (formlely Hotel Nikko) its out of the question. Service wise is excellent. All the staff is very well prepared. So don't get me wrong, location and service make up for the worn rooms. If you don't mind staying in a bit run down property, I guess you will be ok. Gym facilities are also very good, those have indeed received an upgrade last year I believe. I believe there is a charge for its use (unless you are SPG platinum member) which I guess is unfair because same/better hotels nearby does not charge for it.

I used this hotel for a quick stay to attend my cousins wedding. It was at a great location and easy to get to a lot of the historic sites. The hotel staff was courteous and attentive to our requests. The room noise level was quiet.

Average room finishing, old trash cans, antique safe and mini-bar.
The Sheraton Maria Isabel with its low ceiling and gloomy entrance was a disappointment.
With a wonderful view on the Angel De La Independencia, my room was overlooking the backstreets and so were many other rooms as well.
The waiters and workers are super nice and helpful but the hotel is just too old and desperately needs a nice make-over.
The parking is shabby and dirty, but other than that the cleanliness level was OK (without extras).

I arrived after a 20h flight and took a shower and slept without realizing the hotel AC was set to 12 degrees (Celsius). Of course, I caught a terrible cold and stayed in bed for the next 2 days!

On the last day, I signed up for a tour to Teotihuacan. I was charged 580 Pesos, while the trip cost only 560 Pesos for all other hotels who were on the same bus with me. I was sincerely disappointed.

Room Tip: Select a view overlooking the Angel De La Independencia.
