The palace is huge and beautiful, though we spent most of our time looking at Diego Rivera's Murals and did not get a chance to explore all of it. These murals, collective called "The Epic of the Mexican People" are stunning works of art, unimaginably detailed covering the history of mexico over 400 years. Get a guide - we had a passionate elderly gentleman, full of stories about the history and cultures the frescos represented.
Visit the book store inside the Palace. While most of the books are in Spanish, there were some good books in English on the Mexican Mural art movement, that after 2 hrs of being in awe, we were "inspired" to pick up :-)
1) After the tour of the frescos, look for the botanical gardens inside the palace. Idyllic calm and some beautiful cactii. Look for the large number of Royal cats, idling away in the gardens.
2) The fountain in the center
