“beautiful zocalo!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 10, 2014

such a great place with very historical buildings! there are some nice cute restaurants, the church and tons of museums close! its great to park your car and walk around but if your going to be more than a couple of hours take a taxi because parking with cost you! also do some research before about events going on in the zocalo, theres usually something, and army expo, the ice rink, etc. i visit zocalo at least once a month, one of my favorites!

“Nice views from the bar above the plaza”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 1, 2014

If you can get yourself to the hotel in the far right-hand corner (facing into the plaza from the front of the cathedral) of the Zocalo, and head up to the top floor bar, you will have stunning views of the square. The margaritas are massive up there. The mango margarita is unsurpassed. Get there in the evening and enjoy watching the lights slowly change the surrounding buildings. Very beautiful. Or… just walk around the square itself for a cheaper view. There is a big screen broadcasting the World Cup (while it lasts) on the cathedral end of the plaza. Definitely worth a visit if you haven't been there. Lots of restaurants, etc., in the area. But most things close down not long after sunset and the area gets a sketchy feel to it. Be very aware of your surroundings after dark. Or… take a taxi back to your hotel and all will be cool.

“Covered with tents!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 18, 2014

With at least 3 major attractions around it, you cannot avoid this square. It is a beautiful area and It would have been even better if one could stand in the middle and look around, but when we were there, the square was mostly covered by huge, white tents to house a computer exhibition. Even the flag ceremony was not fun.

When we asked locals why this was allowed,we were told that the city(federal?) administration was trying to prevent large scale demonstration by occupying most of the square this way!
