Being in the heart of Mexico City -- adjacent to the Zócalo and a metro station -- the Templo Mayor is exceptionally convenient to visit. The admission is only a few dollars and tours are self-guided. Signs are in English and Spanish. You can look at the ruins at your own pace, and you are just a few feet away so photos will turn out very well.
During my visit I enjoyed letting my imagination show me what Tenochtitlan might've looked like before Conquest, when causeways were everywhere and the temples teemed with people.
