“Great hotel, clean and cheap”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 3, 2013

It's a great place if you want to save some money. It's in the historical down town of Mexico city, only few blocks away from Alameda square and historical buildings. I paid $1,300 pesos for 3 nights. The room has a big bed, the bath is not small, a small closed and most important, all clean. TV cable and internet are included. Perhaps the location is not the best, because at night you need to walk in the dark and there are not nice places around like a bar o restaurants. It's better to get a taxi. In light day you can walk around without problem and you can find excellent coffee and delicious bread walking along Luis Moya street. The only bad thing is that you need ear plugs in the night, because even you can hear a dog barking down the street. Good option if you don't want to spend a lot of money for a room.

Room Tip: No recommend a room on the street side

This is a clean, inexpensive hotel centrally located in Mexico City. You are about 10 minutes walk to the Salto del Agua metro station and if you walk north two blocks on Luis Moya, line 4 (ruta sur) of the Metrobus runs along Ayuntamiento. You are very close to the artisan's market of Ciudadela (which I recommend) There is an OXXO a couple of blocks away as well.

The reception staff is friendly but speaks almost no English. Fortunately I speak enough Spanish to get by so there was no problem.

The rooms, and the hotel in general has almost the feel of a high end love hotel. Don't get me wrong. There was nothing overtly sleazy about this place, but it looked like a place people would go for a romantic night with a significant other rather than a place popular with tourists. The reception has a sign prominently notifying guests that to bring an additional person into the room costs 100 pesos. The rooms have radio with speakers built into the ceiling and by the bed on the wall, there is a switch where you can choose between 3 or 4 pre-selected radio stations, all of them being romance music stations. And of course there is the huge bed in the room that is big enough for four people to spread out!

As for the room itself, there was nothing to complain about at all. It was perfectly large enough for 1 or 2 people, it had tons of drawer space and a closet for hanging things up, cable TV with only Spanish channels, and the huge bed that took up the bulk of the room. To turn on the electricity, you deposit your key into a slot on the wall once inside the room. The built in lighting works on a motion sensor, and as previously mentioned, can get a little annoying as you are walking around the room, but this is by no means a deal breaker to me.. The bathroom was large, modern, and kept spotlessly clean everyday. The bathroom supplies provided were basic shampoo and soap.

There is a menu in the room for room service from the restaurant downstairs (that is open every day but Sundays) with prices identical to those on the restaurant menu. The prices were very reasonable in my opinion.

I paid $42 including tax for this room and at that price, I couldn't have asked for more. It was clean, comfortable, safe, and in a central location. I would not hesitate to stay here again.

The hotel is inexpensive so don't expect too much. The room I had was large and clean. Bed sheet had a small hole in it. TV didn't work. Bath amenities were slim, soap. shampoo, and 1 large towel. Most annoying think was the lighting. Lights were on a motion sensor, a light sensor and the switch. During the day with sunlight the lights in the room didn't work. At night the worked withiut a problem. At dusk it was difficult to get enough light into the bath. No one on the staff, that I met, spoke English. The hotel was generally quiet and clean. The restaurant attached served good food at an affordable price. The location is Ok but expect to do a lot of walking.

stayed here because it had king sized beds and was close to the center (although it is a bit of a hike to the Zocalo).

hotel was of decent quality, cleanliness of the common areas might be a little below par but otherwise pretty good. like many buildings in mex city it had a bit of a lean, noticeable and a bit weird but not too disturbing.

rooms: beds were nice and comfy, showers and bathrooms were great, sound system was a bit odd (three station w/no volume control). tv was about what you would expect, the most annoying thing was the automated lights when you got into the room would also kick in when you went to the dunny at night - potentially (and once actually) waking everyone in the room up. bottle of water every day.

common areas: didnt try the restaurant or room service but it was priced pretty reasonably. lobby was decent and amenable to meeting people. cleanliness was below par - there was a golly in one of the corridors which was sort of gross.

service: actually pretty good, but pretty much only spanish. very professional reception/PR staff.

area: not fantastic - the street the hotel was on was darkish at night, not unsafe but a bit run down. only a few blocks from center and under 5m to two metro lines.

Room Tip: away from the street, of course. but you already knew that.

We were recommended by a friend who used to use this hotel regularly. We wouldn't recommend it anymore! The bedding had holes in it and the room was a bit dirty. Although it was cheap it shopuld have been clean! The restuarnt was very basic.

This hotel is a very good value. The water is hot, the staff pleasant, some speak good English, the rooms are clean, the adjoining restaurant is good and reasonable. The neighborhood is interesting, with a few good restaurants and a fun bar with great music a few doors down. At night it can be a bit dark and dodgy on the street, so take a flashlight and watch the uneven sidewalks.

My room (502) faced an outside courtyard and was very quiet, although the floors are a bit tilted and the shower water wet the bathroom floor. A bathmat would be nice.

When you ask for a taxi to the station or airport, get a normal taxi, not the hotel taxi. I feel like I was overcharged.

I stayed at Hotel Isabel my last trip. I recommend this hotel instead. Much better value.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the noisy street.
