Description: Founded in March 1995, Restaurant Los Danzantes is a study in contrasts: a warm colonial building constructed with volcanic stones and natural nopales surrounding it; a delightful bar carved by Joel Rendon and traditional tones of Mexican music set to a modern rhythm; and, of course, a menu that features regional ingredients shining out in fresh, innovative combinations and fusion cooking.

“Best bugs ever!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 24, 2012

I go there all the time with local and foreign friends. They have a great terrace overlooking the pedestrianized Coyoacán square. They also have very nice private spaces on the top floor if you are a party of 8 or more overlooking the square. During late spring they have a bug festival featuring grasshoppers, ant larvae (escamoles) and worms (gusanos de maguey). They also have other very nice stuff. I love the "quesadila en hoja santa" with Oaxaca and goat's cheese.

“In Coyoacan this is an elegant and lively Oaxacan place to eat”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 13, 2012

Los Danzantes is located in the main square of old historic Coyoacán- known as El Jardin Centenario. Its the twin of a famous Oaxacan restaurant in Oaxaca City. I've not eaten in the mother restaurant but the Coyoacán version is a good place to have a special meal especially if you are planning a trip to Oaxaca. Its a very lively and sometimes overly noisy place overlooking the beautiful Centenario plaza. OUtside there is an open air section which is covered over in bed weather. The wait staff are young and attractive in a way that appeals to many people; some older folk might be a bit put off by this style though. The Oaxacan dishes are more than decent. But what is spectacular is the selection of tequilas and mescals that are on offer. If you have never tasted mescal this IS the place to have a tasting and the waiters will help you make your selection.

“Tasty food with fine location and fast service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 21, 2012

The place has a great location (Coyoacan's "downtown") and offers outdoor seating area which completes a very comfy alternative for a Sunday afternoon.
Food is delivered quickly and with very respectable flavor.
A tasty proposition I found there was the "Esmedregal fish ceviche", which offers a very interesting combination between fish and fruits

“One of my top fice restaurants in Mexico City”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 22, 2012

Its location in a square in Coyoacan, a colonial town that has been absorbed by the city, is wonderful and its food is authentic and sophisticated Oaxan cuisine.

Try the "cabrito" (goat) which is done to perfection, the hoja santa with cheese and, if you are a little braver, the grasshoppers!

You should wash this down with a cold beer and a mezcal or a good mexican wine, ask the waiters for their selection.

I always take foreign friends to this place to show them the richness of mexican food.

“new age cuisine set in the Plaza de Coyoacan”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 19, 2012

New age cuisine with a Mexican flair. Lovely area South of the city. The mezcal which they market and sell is absolutely wonderful. The food is good, the service has its flaws.
