“Very Large Temple”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 2, 2012

This seems to be the largest church or temple in Guanajuato. However, it is not as well decorated as others. Paintings and statues are around the sidewalls. "Mother Mary" has pride of place.

“One of the few true Gothic sanctuaries in Mexico”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 22, 2011

Some of my friends are in crypts inside the walls and floor of the Compañia de Jesus in Gto. They are dead, of course, and just ashy shadows of their former selves. At the back of the Compañia is the Pinacoteca full of paintings restored in Gto. within the last 25 years. The massive arches, grey stone, semi-darkness are all keypoints of this Gothic wonder.
There is a huge historic pipe organ above as well.
Outside the entrance patio cattycorner across for the postoffice, one can find delicious pay de queso ( a Mexican homemade cheesecake) in the evenings or before and after important services.

“Different from the other templos”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 3, 2011

This church is big inside and spartan by comparrison to the other churches/templos in the village. Made of cantera, divided into two areas, very high and there are people buried in the walls. This is a down to earth working church. Sundays, standing room only. Super e-z to get to. On the opposite end of the university steps.
Worth the time to visit because it's so different from the other churches in the village.
