“Beautiful Gold Overlays”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 23, 2012 via mobile

Emormous amount of gold used to overlay altars. Interesting artworks on walls. What intrigued me most was the fact that only the wealthy were allowed inside to see the beauty. Ordinary people were not allowed in to worship in colonial days.

“Worth a trip.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 19, 2012

Beautiful and intriguing baroque church on outskirts of Guanajuato (GTO) with panoramic views of the surrounding region. You can take a local bus up there from a bus stop near the Alhondiga in GTO or a taxi for about 35-40 pesos.

“Nice example of colonial art”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 18, 2012

Small but very decorated ancient church back from the days where more than half of the silver used in the world was digged from Guanajuato. Since is part of most city tours, you do not have to worry about getting there, If you go onw your own, surely you will get to it when you visit the old Mine,

“The temple that thanks God”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 30, 2012

The owner of the mine promised God that if minerals would be find he construct a chapel. It turned out to be one of the richest silver mine in the world. Instead of a chapel this gorgeous church has been constructed.

The church itself is very beautiful plus the sourroundings and the panoramic views ar superb. Remember that is a part of a mine complex so do not forget to go to the mine and restaurants arround.

The best is during Cervantino Festival; all descripted before plus extraordinary musitians and composers can be enjoyed within the church. Mainly is clasical and usualy more specificaly barroque music.

Is a must

“One of the great Baroque Mexican churches”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 25, 2012

Built by the miners during Guanajuato's silver boom. The gold-painted altar makes a dazzling backdrop for the distinguished musicians who play at the International Cervantino Festival.
