“Perfect location for exploring historical Guadalajara”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 22, 2013

I stayed at Hotel Morales for one night after a few days spent in Tequila. I was looking for a place within easy walking distance of the sites of downtown, and this was a perfect location, and I loved the older character of the place. When I arrived to check-in I was told the hotel was full, and my room had been upgraded to a suite, music to my ears. The room couldn't have been lovelier. The indoor courtyards in the hotel are extremely beautiful and charming. I dropped my bags and hit the sidewalk to explore. It's about a 10 minute walk to the Mercado San Juan de Dios and the Plaza de los Mariachis, it's about a 2 minute walk to the Plaza de Armas. Wifi was indeed very spotty in the room, but that would be my only complaint.

Centrally-located colonial-style hotel. Lots of nearby restaurants. No concerns during the day time but would be wary of wandering around neighborhood after dark. Staff were accommodating and friendly. Noisy rooms if facing the street and dependent upon guests in the lobby, as the rooms surround an inner courtyard. Room was clean, but no running water in the room upon arrival. "5-10 minutes" was actually 90-120 minutes to remedy this.

Biggest disappointment was the internet access...or lack thereof. One of the reasons I chose Hotel Morales was because of the complimentary Wi-Fi access. I had read other reviews stating that the internet access was slow, but the manager had countered that they had recently upgraded to a high-speed provider. This was not evident as I could not connect either with my phone or my tablet, neither of which have ever had issues in the past. Other hotel guests had similar issues and those who were able to connect noted that the connection was quite slow. I suspect the connection is probably poor and only a specific number of users can connect - any surplus connections will be refused because the signal would be too weak (which was error message on my phone "weak signal, connection failed"). This occurred with both SSIDs ("Hotel Morales" and "Hotel Morales - Lobby") while I was sitting right in the middle of courtyard. Consequently, I could not email, chat, or Skype with my wife as intended for the duration of my stay. Also, my wife had tried calling the hotel several times in the evening and the line was always busy for some reason.

Overall, it's a good hotel for the price and location. However, if you are counting on any internet access, I would stay away.

I tend to be picky where I stay so I was concerned to take a group to this old hotel but it had such a good location so gave it a try. Fantastic. Location perfect, rooms comfortable and ornate, serve very good. Even the food was wonderful. Only reason for not giving 5 stars is the walls were paper thin. I heard a guy come in at midnight, next door, and hang up all his clothes. Luckily he went right to bed. Don't let this stop you as staying in this hotel is all part of the experience while you explore the area

Room Tip: Their buffet breakfast is very reasonable and very good.

This hotel is greatly located in the Centro District. It is at walking distance to most tourist attractions, federal and state offices, to the flea market which gives you a wonderful experience of real Mexico. The Hotel is nice, beautiful, quiet and splendid. The hotel and the rooms are nicely decorated. The staff is really attentive and helpful. For what I paid, this was the best value that I got for my money at an Hotel.

This is wonderful choice for your visit to Guadalajara. They really take care of you. If you want a driver, they have it. It has a restaurant which was very really good. There are other restaurant all around. Staff really looked after you. I was a single female traveling alone. They were very attentive.

A perfect location to be able to walk to all the sights in downtown Guadalajara. The hotel has the beauty of a grand old hotel with all the modern conveniences. The queen double was very large and we appreciate space. There is a swim pool and gym. Many sitting areas around the hotel in addition to the lobby. Complaints: the breakfast food was only adequate in quality. Wifi is only in the main lobby. There is a step up into the bathroom of our room that proved lethal when not fully awake.

Room Tip: off the street

If you want to discover the many wonders of Historical Guadalajara, a great place to stay for a reasonable price is at the Hotel Morales. It's historical sure, but the rooms are all updated. The in hotel restaurant is fantastic! You can tell it's a great place to eat by the variety of the clientele. The staff was very attentive. The workout room is well equipped. The pool is nice but unfortunately very cool during our February visit. The location of the hotel is perfect as a jumping off spot to see the downtown sites and great restaurants. Plus, in the beautiful lobby they have an in house pianist ! One evening, a trio of very talented Mariachis entertained us there. It was truly a wonderful experience staying there at the Morales Hotel. Skippyfrizz. You will enjoy !
