Recently went to Santo Mar for dinner during Buen Fin. The restaurant is clean, the service is excellent, and the scenery walking by was entertaining as always. The menu at Santo Mar is standard as far as seafood restaurants in GDL is concerned, and the offerings we tried were fairly standard as well. We shared their chicharron de pescado/salad special at the recommendation of the waiter, and while the few bites of seafood I ate were tasty enough, the salad that accompanied it filled the vast majority of the plate and had sugary sweet syrupy dressing. I ordered the Ceviche Chalaca which was tasty, and the portion was great..no negative comments there. My boyfriend ordered the Pad Thai in a moment of weakness (Thai food is all but non-existent in GDL), and we both regretted the choice. The rice noodles came in a vinegar/soy based soupy sauce, topped with 5 shrimp. For 210 pesos, I guess I expected a touch more.
If we return, it'll be for ceviche and beers only.
