“Attractive hotel with nice staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 weeks ago

This is a former Hyatt hotel, which accounts for the architectural style; atrium with glass elevators. The hotel has been updated fairly recently. The rooms are attractive and well appointed. The bathrooms--particularly the showers--are great. Parts of the lobby were on the dark side, perhaps a bid for energy conservation. The location is not at the center of town, but still accessible by cab. The staff was uniformly friendly and helpful. The breakfast buffet offers a variety of options from made to order omelettes to Mexican dishes. The wait staff brings what appears to be a hat rack to your table to hold ladies purses. Lunch/dinner options are also quite good--almost good enough to be a destination for locals. Taxis are readily available. Unlike many hotels, they don't change dollars into local currency, which requires a trip to a change office. We did not check this facility for meeting rooms, so cannot comment on this for business meetings, but many businessmen were staying at the hotel.

I stayed at El Presidente over the holidays while visiting friends in the area. The hotel lobby and public facilities have seen better days (it appears to be stuck in the late 70s) though this could be overlooked if the management and front desk staff weren't so arrogant. The Club and restaurant waitstaff are terrific, however the front desk staff give the impression that every inquiry or request is an inconvenience (particularly if posed in English). My room had a non-working air conditioning unit, yet a request for a room change (after waiting two days for a repair) was met with attitude. The front desk staff were long on excuses and short on solutions. As the hotel was nearly empty (and I'm Platinum Elite), this seemed not only perplexing but inappropriate.

Unlike the public spaces, the rooms have been refurbished and are spacious and attractive. The club level rooms have Nespresso machines but the pod prices are ridiculously inflated, so beware. Additionally, El Presidente does not recognize all IHG Platinum Elite benefits, insisting that some (like upgrades and wifi) are only available to those who pay for Ambassador status (!).

The gym is tiny, with limited cardio and a few free weights. The pool is also small, and thru some odd architectural reasoning, gets no direct sun during the day at that time of year, so sunbathing isn't possible. Running or walking in Ixtapa is doable, but the area is bland compared with nearby Guadelajara's "quaint-colonial- meets-gritty-city" feel.

The food in the main restaurant was good but not particularly memorable, though the service was great (hard to be otherwise with only two guests!).

This Presidente gets zero re-election votes.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for sharing with us your experience at Presidente InterContinental Guadalajara. We appreciate the time you have taken to bring this matter to our attention and allowing us the opportunity to improve in our services.

We recently renovated our hotel, including our common areas and all our rooms. Last year we finished the renovation project in our meeting rooms and now we have a project to improve the pool and gym area as well as another one to change all our air conditioning system in order to make the stay of our guests more pleasant.

We are most appreciative of your preference shown for our hotel and we hope you will give us the opportunity to win back your confidence in the near future.

for an Intercontinental hotel.

The room was big, and the bathroom was as well. Huge shower and separate large deep tub.

There was a flat screen TV with several channels in English. Iron and ironing board.

The bed was on the hard side, but had very soft pillows.

Clean and good service as expected.

I think this is a good choice for business travel. If I were vacationing, I think I would want a hotel with a more "Mexican" vibe.

Dear Guest,

Your feedback is very important for us and we are taking note of your comments to review with the manager team.

The hotel is located just crossing the street from Plaza del Sol (shopping mall) and our concierge will be more than happy to give you the best recommendations. But you can also ask to our front desk staff which is perfectly trained to help you in your research. And the hotel is only 15 minutes from down town.

Regarding the Internet, we offer a free Internet with 10 Giga speed which is perfect to check your mail and we have an 80 Giga speed if you need to download any program or make a conference call with just an extra.

The standard for InterContinental hotel is a minibar in the room but if you need to empty it to stock your milk, you can call our Instant service or room service and be sure they will help you.

Thank you again for staying with us and we hope to welcome you again.

Sincerely,

SMC

We stayed in a beautiful suite with our twin 2 year old daughters at this hotel. The hotel was very clean and beautiful. The staff was extremely helpful. The room service food was excellent. It was extremely easy to come and go in our own vehicle.

Room Tip: The suites are modern and beautiful

Comfortable, top of the line service, great food at restaurant and also a few good eateries nearby. Pool was small and the pool area is not a big deal if you are interested on that. We were impressed by the great customer service. Would definitely stay again when visiting Guadalajara.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your comments regarding your recent stay at Presidente InterContinental Guadalajara.
It’s a pleasure to hear that your stay was very pleased. On the other hand, one favorable asset about our pool is that is located outdoor and the water is heated. We have a project to improve the pool and the gym area to make the stay of our guests more pleasant
Thank you again for your kind comments and we are looking forward to receive you soon.

Regards,

We visited the hotel to celebrate a birthday in Guadalajara and stayed for four nights. The room was great with a big bath tub and comfy beds. There were a few hic-ups, however.
The birthday surprise strawberries had been mischeduled and we had them the day after and the patio drain was clogged and the patio had standing water. Otherwise, pretty good. The breakfast buffet was good, on a scale from 1-10 about a 7. They had a bagel station but no bagels, but a nice selection of juices. In in-room coffee is not free, but 50 pesos, or 4 usd per cup. That was a surprise. The parking is a great deal, at 55 pesos a day. The gym is six cardio machines and a set of hand- weights. Overall, pretty good value.
