We went to Barrio de Quilmes with a friend who lives in Guadalajara. He hadn't been there for over 10 years but remembered how much his dad had liked it.
Located across from the Gran Plaza mall, the restaurant is kind of tucked away on Av. San Ignacio.
The dining room is decorated nicely but not ovedone or too modern looking. To us it had a great "neighborhood place" type of feel.
The waiter brought the tray so we could select our cuts of meat. All of them are huge! Three of us had the vacio, and one had the shrimp pasta.
A salad is served first, which is a nice touch. They also serve bread with the meals. When the steaks came, we swear they were LARGER than the ones on the tray. The meat was cooked perfectly, medium rare as ordered. The shrimp pasta was also a large portion, enough for left-overs the next day.
Two people could easily share an entree here, making it a very reasonavbly priced dinner. The steaks were 175 pesos each, and were probably close to 1/2 kilo. The menu said 400 gr, but we think they were larger.
As far as the combination of food quality, service, atmosphere and price, Barrio de Quilmes was a big hit. We plan on taking friends there on our next trip to Guadalajara.
