We had a rental car and drove to the zoo with no difficulty (from well south of downtown). The roads were really good and traffic was easy to navigate at 9:30am. We were targeting to arrive at the opening time of 10:00am and found the parking lot blissfully empty :) We bought the admission including the sky ride...in hindsight, the Safari probably would have been better. We did the sky ride first thing and were the only ones there. It was slow moving but because it wasn't too hot, quite a few animals were out. The view at the end was a huge surprise and absolutely fantastic! We had no idea we were at the edge of the city. We ended up spending nearly five hours on site and enjoyed every minute. The guide map is in colour and easy to follow. We did eat lunch there and it was (expectedly) less than stellar. My son ordered the meat pizza and--not kidding--it was made out of sliced hot dogs!! I've attached a photo. It was good for a laugh and my son fed most of the hot dogs to a cute cat that seemed to like them :)
A definite recommend! Our son is 14 years old and loved many aspects of the zoo as much as we did. There are lots and lots of trees so it was easy to find shade to stand in while observing the animals. The enclosures seemed very clean and large. The animals seemed very healthy and content!
