Lots of history if you take the time to read the plaques and find out what/who is represented.

“Central Guadalajara”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 13, 2011

The construction and architecture of the buildings were incredible. We took lots of pictures of the government buildings and saw lots of beauty. We felt safe as we visited our daughter and husband who are doing mission work for 2 1/2 years in Guadalajara. It did calm our fears as we visited and stayed away from the border cities. We feel they are safe where they are at. Speaking Spanish or being with someone is a real plus as many smaller places don't have any English speaking people. We had a great time and will plan to do it again.
We also went to Guanajuato which was so impressive. It felt like a European town and had such beauty with the all different colored houses on the hillside along with the incredible architecture and color of the town itself. They have a Funicular and we rode that to the top of the mountain. It had such class, good restaurants and beauty. It's a must see.
