My husband and I stayed here. What a lovely hotel. Decoration is beautiful, stay was really nice. The down part was first night we had a room next to the road and it was extremely noisy. We complained and changed to a better room next night. The breakfasts were included which was great, but we had back stomach and seemed like the chef wouldn't do anything outside the menu, for example no dry toast. Other than that it was lovely.
- Official Description (provided by the hotel):
- built circa 1850 to be the home of a prominent local family. Some years later, José Francisco Orozco y Jimenez, Archbishop of Guadalajara from 1913 to 1936, lived on the premises; presumably in the area near what is now the Secret Garden guest suite.During his tenure as Archbishop of Guadalajara, Orozco led protests against the secularization decrees imposed upon Mexican clergy in 1918 as a result of the Mexican Constitution of 1917. Those protest, and others that arose nearby and throughout the western regions of the country, led to armed rebellions against the Mexican government. That war, known now as La Cristiada, was an affront against the anti-clerical statutes of the Constitution and the 10-year persecution of Catholics that followed, which resulted in the death of thousands. During that period, a tunnel was built beneath our property that served as hiding place and provided shelter to pro-Catholic rebels. After extensive restorations that were begun in 2004, CASA PEDRO LOZA is now one of many architectural jewels of Guadalajara’s historic city center. In fact, the property has previously been awarded First Prize at the city’s annual award for conservation and restoration. The house walls are built entirely of adobe and the arches of the courtyard are constructed of cantera stone, a quarried, volcanic rock that is mined exclusively in regions of Mexico and Central America. During the remodeling project, significant efforts were made to safeguard many of the significant design elements of the home, including the original building materials, the mosaic floors, tile, and ironwork. It’s our hope, when you come through the door for your first time and each time you return, that our house is your refuge and that you always find comfort and tranquility here.Room Amenities Each guestrooms has a modern wall-mounted air-conditioning unit, flat screen TV, ipod sound system docking station, telephone and high-speed wireless internet access. The ensuite bathrooms are configured with an oversized shower and a hairdryer in the vanity areas.
