The 1 bed suite we had was a nice size with a living room with a couch and chairs. The dip pool in the patio was wonderful!! The Staff were all extremely helpful and sweet! The stairs were definitely a bit much and not for the challenged! The beach was amazing, and the restaurant was top notch! The three of us bought the 3-day meal pass, and stretched it to 7 as it was alot of food, so we either ate breakfast or lunch but really couldn't do both in the same day! The dinners included appetizer, entree and dessert.. and we would share 2 dinners and an extra appetizer for the 3 of us..and it was more than enough. The Zi Restaurant was absolutely fabulous! We didn't need to stray far from it because the quality was so good!

The only complaint I have is that you have to close every door including the big sliding wooden shuttered patio door in order for the A/C to turn on. This meant that if you want A/C, you'll have to sit in the dark..the lighting in the rooms were "romantic"... not good for reading at all. But since we were outside on the lounge chairs or at the beach... it really didn't matter too much.

We were there at the beginning of July, it was very humid, and the tree frogs sang, and we saw lighting shows in the clouds every nite. But it really didn't shower very much - even at night.

One last thing: the resort had a strong security staff and we really felt safe.

First time at this property - we are Club members. Stayed in 3 bedroom,
4 bathroom unit - spectacular views and very spacious. Beds are hard and a few things weren't working - staff took care of everything right away.
Steps - 8 flights to our unit - great exercise to help counteract the drinks and wonderful food! Service was wonderful - my teens had a great time at the
poolside bar - their favorite place to have fruit drinks and food! Booked snorkeling tour out of club - wonderful experience. Teens swam with the dolphins - highly recommend. Go to Commercial Mercado when first arrive to get food to save some $$$ - ate away from property for all dinners but one to save some $$$; splurged on spa treatment on site - wonderful

Management response from Ziwa, Club Manager
(Management representative)
Jul 4, 2009
Thank you for taking the time to provide your review and your impressions. I would like to add a few comments regarding our beautiful Club Property, both as to compliment this review, and to reply to some of the previous ones.

I have to agree that most of our Vacation Homes have spectacular views and are very spacious. The reviews are absolutely correct in that the staff here are the most friendly, and willing to serve; they will bend over backwards to give you a great vacation experience. In my 20 years experience in hospitality I have not worked with a similar outstanding bunch of dedicated and happy gals and guys.

I also agree that not only a few, but most appliances are not working properly. After five years of being in an ocean-front property hammered by several weather changes and high humidity, appliances are rapidly getting to the end of their life. We are in the process of acquiring new and long-lasting appliances that will replace the actual ones. While this happens, we continue providing maintenance to all items so you can still enjoy your vacation.

Stairs are a big thing at the Club. This is a property with dramatic views of the Bay of Zihuatanejo built on the edge of a cliff...how does it stay in place? I do not know! But it is certain that if you come you have to be prepared to walk up and down the stairs a few times per day. You can either complain about it all day, and even suggest we built a gondola or a lift (which we will not), or be happy and positive about it (as most members do) just as this Member states - "great exercise to help counteract the drinks and wonderful food!". We do provide club cart service 24/7 that will avoid some steps, but not all.

There have also been several reviews regarding insects and pests, which I would like to address. Essentially, Zihuatanejo is in a rain forest jungle that has a large number and varieties of insects present in the environment, some sting, some bite, and others fly around and look pretty. We have a daily program in place to ensure that as much as is possible the insects stay outside and do not bother our Members and guests, but it is unreasonable to expect that we will eliminate each and every insect from the premises 24/7. By any measure we do not suffer from an epidemic of insects or pests at the Club in Zihua.

Iguanas, bats, sea turtles and many kinds of birds are seen and live in our premises. None of these animals posses a danger to our Members and guests; sometimes they are found inside your Vacation Home, and their drops could be wrongfully mistaken by those of a rat. Our daily cleaning process is well-focused on removing animal drops quickly while respecting the animals that produce them.

Club Intrawest Zihuatanejo is a place that looks after the environment and gives back to the local community as well. We are in the process of installing water-efficient shower heads to reduce the water consumption in 50%, without sacrificing your shower experience. These new shower heads will be installed within the next four months. We will be contributing to a community in which potable water is the most precious resource. We do also separate all the trash produced, while we encourage our Members, guests and staff members to recycle.

I keep seeing comments regarding our food and beverages, to which I also would like to comment on. Zi Restaurant at Club Intrawest has been rated amongst the top three restaurants in the Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo area, and has rapidly became a must-visit place to locals and visitors alike. Members and guests at the Club are lucky to have it in the premises! Looking after the health and well-being of our visitors, we are the only place that does not carry a Mexican Hygiene certification, but an International Hygiene certification instead. Our food handling standards are adhered to those of the HACCP, approved by the USFDA and USPH.

Our prices in fact might not come cheap when compared to other places in town -which by the way do not carry any hygiene certification-, but one thing is for certain: You pay for what you get! and in that context, you pay very cheap at Zi Restaurant. We use nothing, but the best quality ingredients. Unlike 90% of the restaurants and bars in the area, which use counterfeit bulk liquor that put your health at risk, our beverages are prepared from 100% authentic liquor and natural ingredients.

About our Meal Plan...We have improved and revamp our Meal Plan. There are significant savings and, most important, you get authentic quality with the best available service in town. Now you can have a 5 or a 7-Day Meal Plan with savings up to 40%, and be able to use it not only at Zi Restaurant, but at other three quality restaurants in the area. These restaurants have accepted to operate under our own hygiene and service standards, thus giving you flexibility on your Meal Plan while ensuring high quality and hygiene.

Being able to live in large cities at both Europe and North-America, I can tell you that I am glad that Zihuatanejo is not like any of these places, and I suspect that most travelers look for the positive experience in this fact. The staff here would like that you also do the same.

On behalf of all staff at Club Intrawest - Zihuatanejo, I look forward to welcoming you to our beautiful property soon.

We stayed in one of the 1 bedroom ocean front rooms- room 809 to be exact. We really think it might have been the nicest room in the place- our view and room were amazing! I had read previous reviews that said it was buggy there- so I went prepared and took chip clips for our chip bags, ziploc baggies for any leftovers, bug coils and bug spray. I will say the bugs didn't bother us much. Our last day there the outside shower had some creepy bugs in there- but otherwise we were fine. It is an open air room and if you aren't careful- you'll see some bugs! We did go to Commercial Mexicana for some snacks and some lunch foods- I recommend getting some drinks for the evenings in your room from there too. We did purchase the 3 day meal plan- and recommend it but not for anymore days. Another family there got the 7 day meal plan and I think they were over it after the 3rd day. The restaurant is good though- so we were ok with 3 dinners. We also went to eat at Il Mare (right next door to the resort- Italian restaurant) it was good- great view, Bandidos (it's near the market- it's a Mexican restaurant and was very yummy- fun night out), and Amuletto (spelling? It is a very small and nice restaurant with an AMAZING view of the Bay! I recommend this for a romantic dinner!).
The staff at Club Intrawest are amazing- everyone is VERY friendly and will bend over backwards to give you a great experience at their resort. I will say of all the places I've stayed and/or vacationed they were the most friendly and accomodating staff I have ever encountered!
We did the snorkel tour set up by the resort on the Picante. This probably made our trip! AMAZING! We went snorkeling, sailing, swimming, spinnaker flying- all with an open bar. It was $80 per adult- and worth every penny. This is a MUST DO if coming here. The boat crew were so fun and amazing!
The only down side of our trip, and I almost didn't want to mention it because we did have such an amazing trip- but I think it's only fair to mention it. There are rats at the hotel. Another family we met there told us they woke up one night to a very large one roaming their room- and immediately switched rooms. We thought it must have just been a bad one-time thing. Well mid-week my brother found rat poop on his deck- and kept seeing it everyday after that (and the maids did clean it up). Then on our last full day there we came home to see that one had gotten onto our kitchen counters and took a pack of crackers and a packet of sugar and nibbled on them on the porch. Now, I really believe our rooms were very clean- and maintained well. They are open air rooms and after spending a day in the market I think you'll be surprised there weren't more rats. This certainly didn't ruin our trip but was kind of a bummer moment- since the resort is very nice- the beach amazing- everything was great! So it's just a heads up to you. The maids do a great job of cleaning up- so I am sad to only give 3 dots to cleanliness but can't give a room with rats a better rating.
Overall though we had an amazing time, the beach, pool, food and staff our just amazing! Also I recommend the cooking class- it was fun!

This was our second time back to this resort. June is the off season so you practically have the resort to yourself. There is never a shortage of beach chairs. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The pool restaurant was absolutely amazing. We loved everything, especially the burger and fries.

We didn't enjoy the food at the Zi restaurant as much this year. It might have just been a fluke since the food there was delicious the first time we were there.

There are other restaurants along the beach. We dined at Paty's Miramar often as the price was very good and so was the food. If you like Italian food, you have to try IL Mare. It is about a 5 minute walk from the resort. It has the best Italian food.

As for outing, we tried Isla Ixtapa. It was nice but wasn't anything to write home about.

We took the bus and then water taxi to Playa Las Gatas. We hung out at "Arnold's" the two times we went to Las Gatas. The Garlic Shrimp was very good. Mely was our server and he was very friendly and accomodating. I like the fact that he took the initiative to move the beach umbrella to block the sun.

One of the best vacations we have ever had!!!. The hotel is incredible, everything froom the location, room, food and best of all the staff. You will love the beach that is about 15 feet from the beatiful pools. The water in the ocean is warm, clear and calm. Great for snorkeling right off the hotel property. The room that we were in was unbelievable. There was 2 full bathrooms, one outside shower, a private jacuzi and best of all the "deck" is almost as big as the room. There was an outside dining area, 2 hammocks and several outside loung chairs. The food id incredible, it is a little pricy but it is well worth it. You will really enjoy the restaraunt. We had breakfast a few times in our room which has a small kitchen but we could not resist the breakfast at the restaraunt. We had dinner at the restaraunt twice and like I said it was pricy but WELL worth it. There are a ton of different restaraunts in Zihuat and Ixtapa. We would recommend Franks Bar and Grill for there outstanding brick oven pizza and Bandido's for there food. I saved the best for last, I promise you this, I do not think you could find a better group of people that are happy to take care of you in any way than the ones who work at this hotel. The staff here exceeded our expectations in every way. They treat you like royalty during your stay. They are very helpful with planning any type of activities you would like to try and will only recommend the best places to visit or eat while you are on your vacation. I can not say enough of how great of a time my wife and I had at the Club Intrawest Zihuatanejo. I would absolutely recommend this hotel to everyone. Oh and just so you know I have never come back from a trip and actually sat down at my computer to write a review. That is how impressed I was at this hotel. Hope this helped.
