“A great, peaceful place in a fine Mexican town”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 23, 2013

Villa Carolina has seven suites, a fine pool, a two-block walk to a lovely and interesting beach, and a super ambience. The town of Zihuatanejo is darling, well-kept, and populated with a bunch of good eating places and a good many nice shops.
The Hotel itself has a fine ambiance, sociable clientele, and the manager provides concierge service that would be envied by many luxury resorts,
And, the price is right.

I have stayed here on many occasions over the past 10 years and have never been unhappy with my suite, the service or the beautiful relaxing pool area. It is like coming home. I love the intimate and private setting of this villa and the short walk to the beach. It is indeed a hidden gem. Being a travel consultant, I have been privileged to stay in many 5 star properties, but this one holds a special place in my heart.

This jewel of Zihuatanejo is the perfect place for decompression and peace. A place of privacy mixed with a lot of class, the simple pleasures of what a vacation is about. The villa itself is an architectural wonder, massive yet soothing to the eye, warm and secure.

The design lends itself to the creature comforts seldom found in Zihuatanejo venues. The staff is incredible. Never in the way yet always prepared to assist in any way they can. The Carolina is immaculately clean and PRIVATE! Over the many years and many visits to the Villa all we can say is WOW! The day we leave we literally start counting the days till we will return.

This Villa is adults only, with a classy clientele. We have met many wonderful folks there and have friends who we look forward to visit with each year.

Cintya, Martha, Elizabeth, Irwin et. al. the best and most conscientious staff anywhere.

The Villa has a great pool and deck, each suite has a full kitchen and dinning area, fresh pastry and coffee on the pool deck each morning (gratis) a great book and video library, the best Maragaritas in town (a Martha specialty) wonderful casual room service and deck side menu.

The Villa is just steps from La Ropa and about a 5 minute taxi ride to Centro. The Villa is a secure compound with no public access. The high walls and locked doors and gates (guests have keys) give an added touch of privacy. This is not a "bargin" price stay........but if you are looking for luxury, privacy and peace and quiet don't miss the Villa Carolina.

One of the top 3 places to stay in Zihuatanejo.

Our 7th annual visit to Zihua and 6th at Villa Carolina seems better than the last visit, which is impossible. I guess it took a bunch of years to learn how to take advantage of the most wonderful villa we have ever frequented. The hammock on the edge of the living area is used constantly by one of us and is always gently swayed by the breezes from the blue Pacific beyond. The full kitchen has allowed us to cook our own brunches to exactly what we wanted. The pool below is wonderful and just cool enough from the constant mid 80's we get every day. And the short stroll to the beach on cobblestone road is simple and quick. Beautiful, wonderful and totally relaxing with a very friendly staff taking care of our every need.

Room Tip: The 4 pool side rooms are great with #3 and #4 the best for having your meals on your private terrac...

This will be my 9th year of making annual or semiannual visits to Villa Carolina, so obviously this place holds a very warm place in my heart. It is amazing to see Villa Carolina listed 20th on TripAdvisor's recommended Zihuatanejo hotels. A property of this caliber should be rated 1st or at least in the top 3!

Villa Carolina is an architectural gem designed to afford the upmost privacy in the 7 incredibly spacious suites. Each suite is tastefully decorated, appointed with every modern amenity, and includes a fully equipped kitchen. The kitchen comes in handy especially for extended stays. However if cooking is not your thing, you can order from a full selection of breakfast, lunch, snack, and drink options on the room service menu. The beautifully landscaped pool area is the perfect place to soak up some sun and catch up with fellow guests, many of whom return year after year. The wonderful manager Cintya and the entire gracious, dedicated, friendly staff provide exemplary service. The lovely new Canadian owners continue to make improvements that just add to the perfection of Villa Carolina.

The hotel is ideally located only steps away from beautiful La Ropa Beach. On La Ropa take a leisurely walk, sail, paddle board, kayak, float in the gentle surf, watch sea turtles hatch, enjoy a relaxing seaside lunch and view a gorgeous sunset. The shops and restaurants of central Zihuatanejo are accessible by foot (if you are up for some exercise) or hop in one of the inexpensive cabs located just around the corner from the hotel.

Finally, let me address the unrelenting, negative US press reports about the dangers in Mexico. Hey, I live in Chicago where dozens of shootings and murders take place on any given night and we don't even blink an eye. There are horrific, senseless shootings at schools and shopping malls across the states, but no travel alerts are issued against the US. The Mexican drug cartel violence is tragic and there are obviously places in Mexico to avoid. But, for the American Press to label the entire country of Mexico as"dangerous" is grossly unfair. The economies of towns and resorts that depend on tourism are being decimated and the effects on the average, hardworking people of Mexico is heart breaking. As a single woman who often travels alone, I feel absolutely safe at Villa Carolina and in Zihuatanejo as a whole.

I apologize for being so "wordy", but I clearly feel a strong bond to Villa Carolina, the town of Zihuatanejo, and the local people. Please visit--you'll love it!!

We stayed at the Villa Carolina with several other couples Nov. 2011. We had such a great vacation,we came back for 10 days Nov. 2012. The hotel is a real gem! Located a block from La Ropa beach which has nice white sand and is great for swimming. There is also several restaurants along the beach which are fun and inexpensive. The hotel is kept spotless and the pool is one of the nicest ones I have seen in all my travels. The rooms are large and all have a full size fridge and a full size kitchen. The General Manager is Cintya Villanueva. She is more than happy to arrange for tours, make reservations, and suggest things to do while you are vacationing in Zihuatanejo. Cabs are available about 100 yards toward the beach, they are clean and inexpensive,50 pesos to go anywhere in Zihuatanejo. We are planning to go back again Nov. 2013.

We are already booked for November, 2013, after having a fabulous time in November 2012 at Villa Carolina. Our poolside room was perfect, and was kept spotlessly clean by the wonderful housekeeping staff. The hotel is small and intimate, and fit our needs perfectly. It's close to the beautiful La Ropa beach, and many wonderful restaurants. The manager, Cyntya, is readily available and more than willing to help with dinner reservations, tours, and questions and suggestions. We can't wait to return!
