This will be my 9th year of making annual or semiannual visits to Villa Carolina, so obviously this place holds a very warm place in my heart. It is amazing to see Villa Carolina listed 20th on TripAdvisor's recommended Zihuatanejo hotels. A property of this caliber should be rated 1st or at least in the top 3!
Villa Carolina is an architectural gem designed to afford the upmost privacy in the 7 incredibly spacious suites. Each suite is tastefully decorated, appointed with every modern amenity, and includes a fully equipped kitchen. The kitchen comes in handy especially for extended stays. However if cooking is not your thing, you can order from a full selection of breakfast, lunch, snack, and drink options on the room service menu. The beautifully landscaped pool area is the perfect place to soak up some sun and catch up with fellow guests, many of whom return year after year. The wonderful manager Cintya and the entire gracious, dedicated, friendly staff provide exemplary service. The lovely new Canadian owners continue to make improvements that just add to the perfection of Villa Carolina.
The hotel is ideally located only steps away from beautiful La Ropa Beach. On La Ropa take a leisurely walk, sail, paddle board, kayak, float in the gentle surf, watch sea turtles hatch, enjoy a relaxing seaside lunch and view a gorgeous sunset. The shops and restaurants of central Zihuatanejo are accessible by foot (if you are up for some exercise) or hop in one of the inexpensive cabs located just around the corner from the hotel.
Finally, let me address the unrelenting, negative US press reports about the dangers in Mexico. Hey, I live in Chicago where dozens of shootings and murders take place on any given night and we don't even blink an eye. There are horrific, senseless shootings at schools and shopping malls across the states, but no travel alerts are issued against the US. The Mexican drug cartel violence is tragic and there are obviously places in Mexico to avoid. But, for the American Press to label the entire country of Mexico as"dangerous" is grossly unfair. The economies of towns and resorts that depend on tourism are being decimated and the effects on the average, hardworking people of Mexico is heart breaking. As a single woman who often travels alone, I feel absolutely safe at Villa Carolina and in Zihuatanejo as a whole.
I apologize for being so "wordy", but I clearly feel a strong bond to Villa Carolina, the town of Zihuatanejo, and the local people. Please visit--you'll love it!!
