“Six Stars”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 7, 2011

I don't need to repeat what the other positive reviews reported, but would definitely like to add the weight of another happy face to offset the ugly, unfortunate diatribe I just read on this page.

My family (married couple with two adult kids) just got home from Zihua (Note to Trip Advisor webmaster: Tree Tops is NOT in Ixtapa, it's south of Zihuatanejo. Ixtapa may as well be a different country). We spent a week at Jeffrey and Maggy's bucolic hideaway, handy enough to the attractions of Zihua but secluded from the ugliness that currenty plagues Mexico.

We were looking for a tropical vacation, with lots of sun and warmth, and a few activities to occupy our time beyond lazing on the beach. Tree Tops and Zihua delivered, with a capital D. Any guest with a flexible, friendly attitude will be enchanted with the rustic charm of both. Anyone looking for pampering or validation of their superiority should probably spend the extra several thousands of dollars and stay in Ixtapa.

A parting tip: If you reach out and communicate your personal needs and expectations to your hosts, you'll probably have them met. Or you'll learn at the outset that they can't be accommodated and will have the opportunity to find more appropriate accommodations. And you'll have a better vacation.

One word for Treetops "PARADISE".

My finace and are (in our 20's and 30's) traveled to treetops for a 6 night vacation in April 2011. We cannot begin to describe how wonderful the property and the service was!

We would like to take you through are trip briefly to convince everybody to make treetops thier next stop for vacation! Those of you looking for a private experience, private beech, quiet surroundings, and great service then Treetops is for you! (If you are looking for a night life, shopping, partys, and 5 star restraunts then please go somewhere else!)

We landed at the Internation airport, and walked about 200 yards to a bench where a nice covered pickup truck picked us up for $1 per person and took us straight to treetops. (you can also get a taxi at the airport but it will cost 30-40 dollars for a two mile ride!)

We were greeted at Treetops by Jeffery and his lovley wife Maggie. (they own and operate the bungalows) Jeffery and Maggie have their beautiful home built beside the bungalows, and are present to take care of all your needs. They made a great pina colada!

The bungalows are bright, comfortable, clean, and built with beautiful wood and craftmanship. They have great porches to sit and reach and enjoy the ocean view. Each bungalow has a shower, toilet, sink, king bed, dresser, chairs, etc. There is also room in the loft for the kids!

The pool and beach are beautiful, clean, and private. There are thached papala covered areas on the beach for shade and relaxation. The waves were big when we were there, so swimming in the ocean was not an option. The pool however was clean, cool, and a great place to swim.

The best part of treetops is the food! Maggie is an excellent cook, and then menu is fabulous. We also ate at two other local restraunts... however the food did not compare to Maggies. Other restraunts in the area deep fry most of their food, and the quality is not as good. Maggie has the freshest ingredients. She also made a great apple pie on our last day. Her guacamole is to die for.

In summary, Treetops is a fabulous destination for those of you wanting a "getaway from it all" vacation with great food, accomadations, and relaxation. We travel a lot, and were are very impressed!

This place is a slice of paradise. If you want the basics (plumbing) and a "life on the beach" environment, you will not be disappointed. It is rustic, but the rooms are cleaned every day and the sand is removed (what you drag into the bungalows). The food is amazing and the beer is cold. Jeffery and Maggie are the ultimate hosts.

I honestly don't know where to start. I'm at a loss of words for the copious amount of things that happened to us in Treetops.

So here's a list:

1. BEWARE: They just built a "house" in the middle of the property and now all you see from two of the three rooms is the back part of a really ugly CEMENT building with no shape, no style and you have NO VIEW. The remaining room is very very small.

2. There are around three dogs running around the property (sand), they leave their poo everywhere, which is scooped up quickly but it's a bit disturbing.

3. The dogs are aggressive and they DO bite, as they bit another guest when we were there! (I think you will find another review stating the same).

4. The rooms are NOT cleaned. They will leave your bed unmade for two days. The towels at the pool stay outside come rain or shine and have insects and dirt on them (besides the obvious humidity smell).

5. The service is awful. It's impossible to get something to drink during the day, as the owners (who are also the cooks and cleaning crew) will disappear for hours and lock the "kitchen". If they do happen to be in the property they will never ask you if you want a drink or a snack.

6. All food is served on plastic dishes and accompanied with a paper towel roll and flies. The food is not fresh except for breakfasts. All the fish and bread is pre-packaged and frozen. There are no fresh ingredients at lunch and dinner.

7. They don't even light the entrance at night so if you go out for dinner you come back to a rusty un-opnable door and no lighting to get to you room.

8. The water in the bathrrom (shower, sink) might come from a well because it smells.

9. The shower has no pressure and the hot water comes and goes (sometimes it never comes).

I'm sure I've forgotten things but this gives you a main idea of the condition this hotel is in.

our appologies if the design of our bungalows or our house are not acceptable.we dont claim to be a luxury resort designed by world famous architects, but there are many of those resorts here.yes there were 3 stray dogs that decided to stay, one dog nipped 2 guests and the dog catcher was called during this guests stay, all 3 dogs were removed.yes the property is (sand)we are on the beach.it is true my wife and I are the only employees and service is casual.we have a service bell at the bar in the event we are doing other chores.during high wind and rain we close the doors to the bar but not the bar,our hours are posted.we do use plastic dishes on the beach, not glass,we use paper towels as napkins so the dont fly all over the beach in the wind, sorry.our water definately comes from a fresh water well.it is high in minerals and I invite anyone to sample our food and form your own opinion, its wonderful and no charge if im wrong.rust is a constant battle on the beach and our property is lit as well as possible, but the property is large and i recommend a flash light for all visitors.maid service is by request as many of our guests prefer there privacy.we are very sorry these guests had a bad time, you cant please all the people all the time.happy vacations to all.

Paradise! It was exactly what I had been looking for. Jeffrey and Maggy are lovely people and perfect hosts. The accom was spotlessly clean, very comfortable and very beautiful. Treetops is for anyone looking for a totally relaxing 'away from it all' vacation. A $20 ride into town if you feel the need and a short walk (5 minutes) along the sand to 3 other eating/drinking places (mainly catering for seafood eaters, but helpful if not). We saw dolphins playing in the surf, and a wonderful turtle preservation project.

The food at Treetops was very good indeed, the accom outstanding, with a beautiful clean beachside pool. I want to go back again, and again......right now!

Been trying to look for a downside, or something to look out for - there's nothing, it was wonderful.

Treetops was exactly what we were looking for! If you want something that is no-frills, off the beaten path, comfy, quiet & BEAUTIFUL- this is it!

To be honest, when we found and booked this place we were a little worried at the lack of reviews online! But after a crazy cab ride we arrived at Treetops, and Jeffrey was there waiting to help us to our cute & cozy bungalow! Jeffery and his wife Maggie were very accommodating. Maggie's food is AMAZING, the Zihua coffee in the morning and Maggie's hotcakes were something to wake up for! She also makes an amazing fish and her guacamole is to die for! Jeffrey always had a cold beer waiting for us when were ready and we loved sitting at the bar listening to his stories about Zihua.

The grounds of Treetops includes 3 bungalows, a bar/restaurant and a pool (they are in the process of building a 4th bungalow). There are plenty of hammocks and chairs for lounging and the beach is just a few steps away. The pool was always clean and cool, the grounds were immaculate, and the beach was always empty.

The bungalow we stayed in was quaint, but comfortable-except the bed which was very firm, something I am not used to. It had a stand up shower (hot water takes a while!), a sink and toilet all in the bungalow. You go to sleep and wake up to the sounds of the waves crashing just outside of your bungalow. We never had any issues with pests except mosquitoes- which are unusual for the winter months. Be prepared with bug spray either way at dusk- but especially if it has recently rained.

This is located on Playa Blanca. It is not in walking distance to anything except two restaurants, Kelite's and Punta Diamante. Kelite's is closest, and has great food and friendly servers. It was nice to end the day here with dinner and a few beers and watch the sunset. Punta Diamante is approximately a half mile down the beach and has equally good food. When we visited they had neon painted chickens and a few locals were spending time with their families in the pool.

Be prepared if you plan to travel frequently into town, expect to spend money on cabs daily, rent a car or you will have to take "the bus". Any and all of which will provide an interesting travel experience :) We always took the bus, and it was always a fun little adventure.

Ask to see the baby sea turtles. We were lucky enough to take part in releasing 420 baby sea turtles into the ocean at sunset- it was incredible!

We really loved Treetops, and we will be back.
